The 2012 Summer Olympics, officially the Games of the XXX Olympiad, and also more generally known as London 2012, was a major international sport event, as governed by the International Olympic Committee (IOC), that took place in London, United Kingdom, from 27 July to 12 August 2012. More than 10,000 athletes from 204 participated.

He put on a devastating burst over the last 100m to overtake Park at 3:40.14, setting a new Olympic record. Sun was the first male Chinese swimmer to claim an Olympic gold.

Chinese veteran lifter Wang Mingjuan won the gold of the women's 48-kg contention with a total of 205kg at the Olympic Games.

Wang secured her first Olympic gold after lifting 110kg in her first attempt in clean and jerk. She then succeeded in her second attempt with 114kg, but failed to lift 116kg.

China’s Wu Mingxia and He Zi have won the gold medal for the women’s Synchronised 3 meter Springboard at 2012 London Olympic Games. They took the gold with a score of 346.2 points after five dives. The US’s Kelci Bryant and Abigail Johnston took silver with 321.90, while Canadian pair Jennifer Abel and Emilie Heymans took third place.

Isaev Mansur of Russia outpowered Riki Nakaya of Japan to take the men's 73kg judo gold medal at the London Olympic Games.

The bronze medal was shared by Nyam Ochir Sainjargal of Mongolia and Ugo Legrand of France.

Fifth seed Aron Szilagyi of Hungary turned out unstoppable as he stormed all the way to win the men's sabre gold of the London Olympic Games.The 22-year-old beat Diego Occhiuzzi of Italy 15-10 in the final. Russian Nikolay Kovalev, who knocked out world No.1 Nicolas Limback of Germany 15-12 in the quarterfinal, won the bronze. Szilagyi raced to a 7-0 lead in the final, and though Occhiuzzi fought back valiantly, the Hungarian managed to hold his lead.

Rebecca Soni won the gold medal and broke the world record that she had set just 24 hours earlier in the women's 200 meters breaststroke final on Thursday night.Soni became the first woman to swim below 2:20 in the event as she produced a time of 2:19.59. to confirm her dominance in the event.

America's Missy Franklin claimed her third gold medal of the Olympic Games and broke the 200 meters backstroke record into the bargain on Friday night.

Franklin, 17, had already claimed gold in the 100 meters backstroke and formed part of the US's women's 4x100 freestyle relay, but this was probably her best swim of the Games.

Britain snatched their fourth track cycling gold of the London Olympics after breaking world record to win women's team pursuit in the Velodrome .

Britain beat United States in the final, setting a new world record in three minutes 14.051 seconds.

Chinese Wu Minxia scored 414 points to win the Olympic women's 3m springboard diving gold medal.

Jamaica's Usain Bolt successfully defended his Olympic title when he won the men's 100m dash in a Games record time of 9.63 seconds

Ukrainian lifter Oleksiy Torokhtiy won the Olympic gold medal in men's 105kg category with a total lift of 412kg.

Torokhtiy, 22, snatched 185kg and jerked 227kg en route to winning gold. The silver medal was won by Iran lifter Navab Nasirshelal with a total of 411kg.

Russian diver Ilya Zakharov defeated China's defending Olympic champion He Chong and synchro title winner Qin Kai to win the gold medal of men's 3m springboard diving at London Games. Zakharov, runner-up of the event at the 2011 Shanghai World Championships, compiled a total of 555.90 points after the six rounds, edging 14 points over Qin who bagged a silver medal.

Usain Bolt clocked 19.32 seconds to win the Olympic men's 200m gold medal as Jamaicans swept the medals. Yohan Blake clocked 19.44 for silver and Warren Weir of Jamaica took bronze in 19.84. "There is no doubt who is going to come out on top, this is my favorite event and I'm looking forward to it. People always doubt the champion, but I don't have any doubts," Bolt had said after winning his 200 meter semi-final on Wednesday night. 24 hours later and that self-confidence was proved to be well founded after he wrote his name in the history books as the first man ever to win 100 and 200 meter titles in successive Olympic Games.

Russia won the fourth consecutive Olympic gold medal Friday in the team event of synchronised swimming at London. Russia, which won all the world championships and past three Olympic gold medals, dominated from the overnight deut session to collect a total of 197.030 points for the top podium. China, the bronze-medallists at the 2008 Beijing Games, edged off Spain for the silver medal with 194.010 while Spain on third with 193.120.

The United States women's basketball team thrashed France 86 50 in the final of London Olympic Games to clinch the fifth consecutive Olympic title.

With the victory, the U.S. extended their Olympic winning streak to 41 games, and also claimed the seventh crown in the past eight Olympics. Three players in the team, Sue Bird, Diana Taurasi and Tamika Catchings, took their own collection of gold medals to three.

Egor Mekhontcev of Russia won the men's 81kg boxing title after beating Adilbek Niyazymbetov of Kazakhstan at London Olympic Games
