The Two Cell Types
There are two basic cell types:
Prokaryotic cells are simple cells
Eukaryotic cells are more complex
Prokaryotes
No nucleus
No internal compartments (these are
also known as organelles)
Cells are very small- about .1 – 1 µm
Example: Vibrio (a type of bacteria)
A typical prokaryotic cell
Eukaryotes
DO have a nucleus
DO have internal compartments
(organelles)
Usually very complex in structure
Cells are larger- >1 µm
Example: a cheek cell or paramecium
A typical eukaryotic cell
