The Two Cell Types
There are two basic cell types:
 Prokaryotic cells are simple cells
 Eukaryotic cells are more complex
Prokaryotes
 No nucleus
 No internal compartments (these are
also known as organelles)
 Cells are very small- about .1 – 1 µm
Example: Vibrio (a type of bacteria)

Eukaryotes
 DO have a nucleus
 DO have internal compartments

 Usually very complex in structure
 Cells are larger- >1 µm
 Example: a cheek cell or paramecium
