DOMESTIC SERVICE IN THE SOUTH
 Domestic Workers work within the employers home.
 Jobs include cooking, cleaning, care for children, ironing,, laundry,
running errands, etc.
 During the Post Slavery Period, “In the eyes of the former slaveholders,
"domestic service" must have been a courteous term for a contemptible
occupation not a half-step away from slavery.”
 The buses in Montgomery served each day as many as 40,000 blacks
and 12,000 whites
 First ten seats of every bus were reserved for white riders
 Last 26 seats were reserved for blacks

“People always say that I didn't give up my seat because
I was tired,” Rosa Parks wrote in her autobiography,
“but that isn't true. I was not tired physically, or no
more tired than I usually was at the end of a working
day. I was not old, although some people have an
image of me as being old then. I was forty-two. No, the
only tired I was, was tired of giving in.”

equal access to services at bus terminals from Washington DC to New
Orleans
