Background

Following has been decided in previous 11ax meetings:
–
AP can request beamforming feedback over partial BW which is less than the NDP BW. The
indication of the feedback BW goes in NDPA.
•

The granularity of channel feedback requested by the AP is a 26 tone RU. The AP signals start
and end 26 tone RUs requested for feedback.
•

NOTE—The tone grouping factor, Ng is defined with respect to data tones of the HE PPDU.

AP shall control the Ng, quantization, and Nc of the sounding FB in NDPA except in the
special case of a NDPA addressed to a single STA which requests SU type feedback. In the
aforementioned special case, the STA controls these quantities.

• In HE NDPA we need 4 Byte for per STA Info:

Feedback type per STA: SU/MU/CQI per-STA = 2bits
Ng per-STA = 1bit (Ng = {4,16})
Codebook size per-STA = 1bit (quantization resolution = {(2,4),(4,6)} when
feedback type = SU, quantization resolution = {(5,7),(7,9)} when feedback type =
MU)
– Nc per-STA = 3bits (Nc = 1…8)
– Partial BW Info per-STA of feedback report = 14 bits
• We suggest to reuse the frame type/subtype of VHT NDPA
– HE NDPA and VHT NDPA serve similar function
– Only 3 reserved subtype for control type, need to reserve subtype values for future
use

Changes Compared with VHT NDPA
•

VHT/HE (B1 of sounding dialog token) : to help all HE STAs to differentiate
between VHT NDPA and HE NDPA.
Per STA Info extends from 2 Byte to 4 Byte to include more info:
– AID11: 11 LSB of the AID of an HE STA expected to process the following HE NDP and
prepare the sounding feedback.
– Partial BW Info: signals the start index and the end index 26 tone RUs requested for feedback (7
bit is needed for maximum 74 RUs for start/end RUs).
– Disambiguation bit (B27): set to 1 to prevent VHT STA from parsing B16-B27 as his own AID
– Feedback + Ng + codebook size (2+1 bits) jointly indicate:

Further Explanation Regarding VHT STAs
Behavior
• Some further explanations regarding VHT STAs behavior:
– AID11 in STA info 1 of HE NDPA is the AID of an HE STA, hence
VHT STA will not parse B0-B11 as its own AID.
– Disambiguation bit corresponds to the MSB of AID12 of the 2nd STA in
VHT NDPA, and is set to 1, making AID12 > 2048 , never match the
AID of a VHT STA.
