CSS REPORT
Area Summary
•
The area has essentially set a record (for the area) the last 6 months.
• 6 Reviews imitated with 5 completed and 6th nearly completed
• 162 total RIDs processed by the area
•
CSA WG – on the verge of completion, dissolving
•
CSTS WG – nearing completion on initial set of chartered projects
• If prototyping resources made available, member agencies can have blue
books to begin cross support implementation of monitor data and tracking
data exchange by late 2015
•
CSSM WG – off to an excellent start and has a good chance to bring in its first
blue book in less than 2 years elapsed time (blazingly fast in CCSDS terms), but
significant resource shortage looming
•
AD and DAD wish to see excellent progress continue and are determining
potential best technical approach to further cross support re forward/return file,
forward frame, and service control recommendations

SLS AREA REPORT – SUMMARY (1 of 3)
RFM WG Radio Frequency & Modulation
• (New) Recommendation 2.4.22A/B on high rate telemetry and PN ranging ready for publication.
• (New) Recommendations 2.4.23 on 26 GHz modulations for EESS expected RED for Fall 2015.
• Recommendation 4.1.5 on modulation losses due to ranging signals ready for publication.
• Five years review of 413.0-G-2 Bandwidth-efficient modulation GB: to start in Spring 2016 after
work on new/modified RECs finalized.
• PCOM GB expected by Fall 2015. However all Agencies but CNES expressed preference for
freezing this work and resuming it later.
C&S WG Coding & Synchronization
• Selection of new uplink codes for 231.0-B (TC Coding) confirmed, work on-going for CLTU
delimitation procedures.
• NASA & DLR Orange Book on “Short Block length LDPC code for TC” going through last update
• WG agreed on the structure of draft pink sheets to 131.0-B (TM Coding) to introduce LDPC
slicing.
• WG agreed on the structure of the VCM Magenta book, new draft to be distributed and
discussed by Spring 2015.
• DLR Orange Book on Erasure Codes published.
• NASA and DLR confirmed support to work for Blue Book for Long Erasure Codes (concept paper
under way).
NGU WG Next Generation Uplink
• CCSDS 230.2-G-1 “Next Generation Uplink. Green Book. Issue 1” published July 2014.

SLS AREA REPORT – SUMMARY (2 of 3)
SLP WG Space Link Protocols
• Resolution to publish the updates to the TM, AOS, and TC Space Data Link Protocol books in sync with
the 1st release of the SDLS blue book generated.
• New release of CCSDS 130.2-G-2 Space Data Link Protocols expected before Spring 2015 meeting.
• Progress was achieved on refining what the key set of requirements are for the USLP including the
interface requirements to the immediate upper and lower protocol stack levels. Further refinement of
the USLP GB along with a draft USLP White Book is planned for Spring 2015.
MHDC WGMultispectral & Hyperspectral Data Compression
• New 122.1-B: Spectral pre-processing transform stage to extend 122.0-B to support multispectral &
hyperspectral images: specification progressing for the recommended transforms including low
complexity option. Cross-verification of transforms to be performed 1S2015.
• New 120.2-G Lossless Multispectral & Hyperspectral Image Compression Green Book: nearing
completion. Internal review on-going.
• New project proposal: Near-Lossless extension of CCSDS-123.0-B “Lossless Multispectral &
Hyperspectral Image Compression” leveraging existing CCSDS-123.0-B standard to provide a very low
complexity compressor for missions in need of lossy but high fidelity compression
OPT WG Optical Communications
• Blue Book for Optical Communications (Physical Layer; Coding & Synchronization):
• 2 competing proposals for the “High Data Rate” mission profile. No consensus in the WG with
respect to allowing one or two options for this profile. Way forward to be resolved by the WG
• DLR taking the leadership to develop the specification for the “Low Complexity” mission profile
• Green Book for Real Time Weather and Atmospheric Characterization Data: internal review of 1st draft
on-going.

Issue 2: Final resolution of CSS / MOIMS SM&C overlap
• CCSDS shall maintain a single reference architecture and lexicon
• Cross Support Transfer Services (CSTS) Framework and Cross
Support Service Management (CSSM) shall be used for interfaces
between the mission control systems and the ground
network/stations, including for ground station planning and
scheduling.
• MOIMS Mission Operations Framework and Services shall be
used for interfaces between the mission control systems and all
other mission operations ground assets (except ground stations)
and for E2E space-ground MO services via encapsulation/SLE
tunneling, including mission planning and scheduling.
• The CESG shall enforce a clear apportionment of tasks to WGs
consistent with the above frameworks. Deviations are possible,
but they need to be justified and approved by CESG
