Timing Is Everything
2010 merger of ICC with Nexergy, Inc. created
both challenges and opportunities:
 ICC was running QAD 2009SE On Demand in

Chicago and 2010SE in China
Nexergy was using a completely different ERP
system in Columbus, OH, Denver and Tijuana.
The new entity would run QAD On Demand enterprise
wide and rapid implementation was essential.
4
4
Proceed with Caution
Merging two companies on different technology
platforms is rarely simple:

ICC’s use of QAD was limited to:

Nexergy staff utilized its ERP system end to end and had
incorporated third-party functionality for BI, EDI, Logistics and
Data Automation … but didn’t know QAD at all.
– accounting in Chicago and
– the China facilities, which took advantage of the productionrelated functionality .
Result?
The conversion team failed to take into account Nexergy’s 7,500
shipping/receiving transactions per year.
5
5
What was the Impact?
Ouch!
 7,500 shippers @ 3 minutes per shipper was not



acceptable
The QAD shipping process was far too
cumbersome for the Nexergy staff based on
previous functionality
This had to be remedied prior to go-live.
QAD had a suggestion…
6
6
Working Together
QAD suggested that ICCN meet with Eagle
because:
 Eagle had an On Demand solution that was fully
integrated with QAD On Demand
 Eagle had the functionality to streamline shipping /
receiving challenges and could handle rapid
implementation
 Eagle is a known and proven organization: QAD’s
Strategic Partner for over 20 years
 Eagle’s global presence would be able to support
any ICCNexergy location.
7
7
Next Steps
The ICCN conversion team worked with Eagle
to map out a realistic and achievable solution
that would enable them to meet their
immediate goals:
 Streamline shipping and receiving
– Reducing the time it took to create a shipper
 Enable the required label printing, including

customer-specific labels, shipping labels and
receiving labels.
Do it in 3 weeks in 2 countries.
8
8
Implementation
 The initial conversion to QAD2009SE


happened on schedule within 90 days.
The QAD conversion was a self inflicted
disaster! There were more problems with the
data than anyone could have expected.
But…
The implementation of Eagle DC for
shipping and receiving was performed
without a hitch!
9
9
Results
Rapid implementation = Rapid Time to Benefit
 Eagle worked with ICCNexergy to reduce the
shipping transaction time from three minutes per
shipper to one.
 Saving two minutes per transaction times
approximately 7,500 transactions per year means:
– Reducing the time from 22,500 minutes a year to 7,500
minutes per year
– Reducing labor cost
– Improving efficiency
– Satisfying users’ expectations.

Seamless Integration
with QAD
 RF Express™ for QAD Enterprise Applications is
written in Progress
 Can match all QAD versions back to V7.4 and
up to current versions of QAD and Progress:
– QAD:
– Progress:
2012.1EE
11.0
 Must match the QAD version it’s running with:
– For example, if you are running QAD2012EE, you
would need the version that matches your QAD
product, in this case RF2012EE.
– For QAD2012SE, you would need the RF version to
match that – RF2012SE etc.
12
12
WHY?
 When you have a conversion team focused




on the task at hand and an issue such as
implementing a third party package is
thrown in, you have a problem.
Eagle offered their solution for Phase 1(S&R)
They took control of the implementation
with little involvement from ICCN
They educated users at the sites
Then they finished the job and stepped
aside and did not push for Phase II.
13
13
The Bigger Picture




ICCN needed a total solution for its data automation needs
Phase II of the implementation included all of the “other “
functionality that was lost
– Cycle counting
– Work Order picklists
– Inventory moves
– Shop floor transactions
– Lot tracking
Eagle has provided a solution that incorporated our existing
equipment
Eagle’s support capabilities and reaction time have proven
to be outstanding!
14
14
DC and ISO
 Data Collection is key to ICCN obtaining
ISO 13485 certification
– Cradle to grave lot tracking for every
component in the assembly
– Accurate entry of items up to 25 chars long
through receipt, issuance, application and
shipping
– We needed an application that would not put
further burden on the production staff
15
15
Programs Written in Progress
 Native language for QAD provides fastest




response time
100% data validation and put-away
through QAD routines
Architecture identical to QAD Enterprise
Applications
No third-party ODBC interfaces
Compatible with Progress Versions 6-11.
16
16
Why is that important?
 Most of the third party QAD



applications are written for SQL
Not a bad thing, just added overhead
that you need to totally investigate
You also need to understand the
underlying connectivity with QAD
You also need full disclosure of the
costs to incorporate SQL into the mix.
17
17
Lowest Cost of Ownership





Low overhead: no additional PCs needed
No additional IT skills required (to maintain
additional databases or servers)
Site-specific requirements handled through
standard product
Efficient implementation services
Smooth and proven upgrade path to match QAD
updates and upgrades.
Eagle simplifies transactions. Drives inventory
accuracy. Saves time. And improves productivity.
