high temperatures &
density; organoclays and
resilient emulsifier package,
some circulation time
needed to condition initial
rheology and treatments
Fluid Characteristics
Stable rheology across
wide temperature range;
shear thinning with
progressive & fast-breaking
gel strength (no spikes in
pressure). Treatments take
effect rapidly
Fluid Characteristics
Stable rheology across
wide temperature range;
shear thinning with
advanced gel strength and
low shear viscosity which
are insensitive to higher
temperatures

BaraECD™ Customized Weighting Materials
Micronized
weighting
agents
Uses principles
of Stokes law
Vs = Particle settling velocity
R = Particle Radius
 Less than 4 micron d-50
 Describes relationship of
viscosity with density and particle
size
 Small particle size slows
settling rate
 Does not consider any
interactions of components within
the fluid
 Acceptable settling rate with
reduced fluid rheology

Case History – BaraECD™ System
Location: Gulf of Mexico
CHALLENGE:
 Gulf of Mexico well with increased sag potential, high angle
wellbore
 Elevated ECD, 6.5-inch hole, window milled out of 6.625-inch
ID casing
 Differential Sticking and lost circulation hazard, depleted sand
9.3ppg EMW, 3,000 psi overbalance
 Increased potential of fracture-induced lost circulation, 13.7 ppg
surface mud weight, 14.8 ppg fracture gradient in depleted sand
SOLUTION:
 BaraECD™ Fluid System applied
 Halliburton Hydraulic Shear Unit used to pre-condition fluid
RESULT:
 BaraECD fluid reduced ECD by 0.47 ppg and stayed below
fracture gradient
 Section was drilled successfully with no indications of barite sag
 Losses were mitigated with no differential sticking issues
