Analyzing Your Data: Unique Local Insights
Write a brief analysis of your findings regarding each Data Source. If you wish to see some examples, click the
“ Example” button below. This software will print up to one full 8.5” x 11” page for each source. Please try to
contain your analysis in the space provided. If you write more, the text may be truncated in the printout! You have
the option of changing font size, but we do not recommend using a font size smaller that 10 pt. [This paragraph is
written in 10pt type.]
Data S ource #1: Unique Local Insights: NSSE Survey Opinion Inventory
The National Study of School Evaluation opinion inventories for students, teachers, parents and
community were selected as the instruments to be used. The inventories allowed us to find out
the views of all stakeholders regarding the school and helped guide our decisions about target
goals. The survey instruments were given to:
Students 652
(637 returned)
Parents 261
(187 returned)
Teachers 42
( 41 returned)
Community 100 (This was a random sample and survey was given on the
telephone. Seventy-two completed the survey.)
The Findings are shown in Graph 1.
The Analysis is as follows:
When we examined the data we found a consistently low rating in the substance abuse area,
preparing students for life, and understanding responsibility. We decided this information
should be maintained as part of our triangulation of data for an affective goal in our school
improvement plan. The data from all four groups surveyed led us to create a follow-up survey
for use with the same groups to determine clearer direction.

identified and the tasks the analysis has suggested. You may write up to one half page for each
field: more than that amount will be truncated in printing.
Unique Local Insights
Implications: S tudent Performance Goals
Both the NSSE Survey and the follow-up survey indicated a need to address career
awareness and exploration with our students.
Implications: Clarification of Goals
The follow-up survey helped us narrow the focus of our affective goal to career decision
making skills.
Implications: Intervention Group(s) Identified
No interventions identified at this time.
Implications: Non S tudent Performance Goals
Exercise in Implications and

Triangulation of Data: Goal 1
Gather printouts of the three primary data points (sources) and other materials you used in
arriving at the goal. Enter the names of these sources below. Enter the goal in the field below the
data points. After studying the data sources (points), write a brief analysis of what the data
show and why you believe this is an area worthy of targeting for improvement. The final
printout of your profile can contain up to two pages of analysis. M ore than that amount will be
truncated.
Data Point 1:
NSSE Survey
Data Point 2:
Locally Developed Survey
Data Point 3:
Information from Former Students
Goal:
All students will improve their career decision making skills.
Analysis and conclusions:
Students, parents, and teachers all provided data that indicated a need to address the area of
preparation of students for life. They believed our current programming was not providing
graduates with all the skills they needed for transition to their next level, especially if that next
step did not include post-secondary education.
