MAB Loading Order

Load patients from front of bus to rear

Load least injured patients first

Heaviest patients in the bottom positions


Lightest patients should be in the top
positions
Potential critical patients or most severely
injured patients should be loaded in the
middle positions



Patients are placed on the bus litter
OUTSIDE the bus and litter is then placed
on a standard ambulance cot for entry
onto the bus.
The ambulance cot should be rolled up the
ramp in the lowest maneuverable position
with the patient’s head toward the front of
the bus.
This allows for the most stable position
and less chance for the attendant to strike
their head on the door frame.
For Upper Positions:
1 - Align the cot next to a litter bay
Raise the cot to highest position
Extend empty litter slide brackets
2 - While leaving the foot of the litter on the
ambulance stretcher, hook the head of the
litter into the bracket
3 – The provider at the feet then holds the
foot end of the litter while the attendant at
the head pulls the cot out from under the
litter, toward the front of the bus (see note)
4 – The provider at the head end squats below
the litter, at the level of the patients thighs,
with his back straight, using your legs, lifts
the litter to the level of the bracket
6 – The provider at the feet guides the litter
into the bracket
5 – The brackets are then slid into the rack
and locked in place with the pin
Note: In the front bays, you should reverse
the procedure and put the foot end in the
bracket first and move the stretcher towards
the rear of the bus and then place the front
end in the bracket
For the Middle Position
1 - Align the cot next to a litter bay
Raise the cot to highest position
Extend empty litter slide brackets
2 - While leaving the foot of the litter on the
ambulance stretcher, hook the head of the
litter into the bracket
3 – The provider at the feet then holds the
foot end of the litter while the attendant at
the head pulls the cot out from under the
litter, toward the front of the bus (see note)
4 – Together, lift the foot end of the litter into
the bracket
5 – The brackets are then slid into the rack and
locked in place
