Food Safety Professional Development for Early Childhood Educators Dr. Huey-Ling Lin, Project Director Alabama State University Overview Funding Agency Project Goals Project Activities Q&A An Integrated Research, Education, and Extension Competitive Grant Has been funded through U.S. Department of Agriculture ($500,000 for three years) Overall Concept Teacher Training Affects Teaching practices Teachers Children’s practicing food safety behaviors Reduces Risk of foodbourn illness Project Goals Project will develop research based food safety education training module. ECE teachers and parents will participate and increase number of hours in food safety education training. Project Goals ECE teachers and parents will increase knowledge and understanding of effective strategies to teach children about food safety behaviors in classrooms. ECE teachers will more frequently apply and teach food safety practices in the classroom. Project Goals Children will demonstrate improved food safety practices in the classroom. There will reduce the risk of the food-borne illness in Alabama. Project Activities Multidisciplinary teams will develop a research-based food safety education training module. Project Activities ECE administrator, teacher and parent team will participate in one day “Teach-toOthers” food safety education training. Project Activities Mini grants and technical assistance will be provided to assist the participating teams in conducting “Share-the-Training” with their colleagues and parents.
