THE GREEK GODS

Greek Mythology.
This is a collection of tales concerning gods, heroes & rituals of the ancient Greeks.
Although we recognize the stories as fiction, back then it was viewed as truth.
It began around 1200 B.C.
Zeus
• Zeus was the lord of the sky, the
rain god…he was the ‘weather’
god.
• Zeus overthrew his father.
• He became the chief judge &
peacemaker.
• He became the supreme ruler of
the gods.
• His image appears on Greek
coins.
ARTEMIS & APOLLO
• Artemis and Apollo were
fraternal twins. Apollo was the
boy, and was the older twin.
• Apollo was the god of sun,
truth, music, (played the lyre),
and healing.
• Artemis was the lady of the
wild things, she was the
huntsman of the gods.
APHRODITE
• Aphrodite was the
god of love and
beauty.
• Her father made her a
magical garment made
of jewels. When she
wore it, she was very
irresistible.
• She was loved by
many gods & mortals.
• Athena is the goddess of
the city, handicrafts, and
agriculture.
• Athena is one of the
many daughters of Zeus
• She was fierce and
brave in battles .
Hercules
• Hercules was a hero of
Greek mythology.
• He was a son of Zeus.
• He was well-know for
his strength.
• When he grew up he
became a great warrior.
• Hercules became a
children’s movie in
1997.
• Hades was the God
of the underworld.
• When mortals came
to him, he never let
them leave his
domain.
• He was very cold
hearted.
PEGASUS
• Pegasus is not a god, but a
creature of the gods.
• Was a beautiful winged
horse.
• Rose to the heavens where it
became a constellation.
ACHILLES
•
Achilles was the best
fighter of the Greek
Trojan war.
• In war he got hit in the
ankle with an arrow.
• Achilles tendon (of the
leg) was later know as
the strongest tendon of
the body.
• The Achilles Tendon was
named after this great
warrior in later time.
