o Established in 1994; Support both interlaced and non-interlaced video
o Designed for higher bandwidth to cover wider range of frame sizes (including HDTV)
with compressed video/audio data rate up to 80 Mbit/s
o Four scalable modes in the MPEG-2: only available on Main+ and High profiles:
Spatial, SNR, and Temporal Scalability & Data Partitioning
