In Case You’ve Forgotten
• We are in the process of migrating ccaforum.org and related services from ancient
machines at LBNL to new(er) machines at
ORNL
• Web site, wiki, mailing lists have been
running off of the ORNL server for months
(www.cca-forum.org)
• SSH logins, CVS and SVN repositories are
still on the LBNL system (cca-forum.org)

Why is this Taking so Long?
• Using professional system administrators has both
advantages and disadvantages
– Advantage: they can do a lot of things cheaper and more
efficiently than we can
– Advantage: they know the ins and outs of satisfying cyber
security requirements
– Disadvantage: they’re oversubscribed
– Disadvantage: a constant stream of security incidents and
top-down DOE requirements takes priority over most other
things
• I’m in the process of writing a service agreement so
we can reduce these problems in the future

Coming Soon: Login Accounts
and the Last Great Migration!

Our server is being hooked up to the official, approved, apple
pie-friendly ORNL account management system (XCAMS)
Everyone will need to create an XCAMS account for
themselves
Everyone will need to request appropriate CCA resource
group(s)

Approval by me initially, later also Rob, Ben, Tom
We will arrange with you a “cut-off date” to move your files
from LBL to ORNL and cease using LBL
Groups collaborating through CVS/SVN will need to set cutoffs for their migrations
When enough people are running on the ORNL server, we will
redirect the host name cca-forum.org to it, officially eliminating
access to the LBL server.

Do it Soon!
• On 9 January, LBNL suffered a major power outage
• It appears to have killed one of the two cca-forum
servers at LBNL
– There is no more backup hardware at LBNL
• LBNL files are mirrored to the ORNL server twice
daily, but…
• You must have an XCAMS account and appropriate
group authorization to use the ORNL server!
