God's Special Agents : Angels
하나님의 특수 요원 : 천사
Definition of Angels 정의

The spiritual beings which God created higher
than man, some of whom have remained obedient
to God and carry out his will, and others of whom
disobeyed, lost their holy condition, and now
oppose and hinder his work.
 하나님께서 인간보다 조금 낫게 창조하신
영적존재로서 그들 중 일부는 계속 하나님께
순종하여 하나님의 뜻대로 사역하고 있으나
일부는 불순종한 결과 천사의 거룩한 직분을
박탈 당한 채 하나님께 반역하고 그 의 사역을
방해하는 존재들이다.
Difficulty on the Subject
천사론 연구의 애로사항

The biblical references on the subject are not very
helpful for developing a comprehensive
understanding of angels, every reference to angels
is incidental to some other topic.
 성경에서 천사는 다른 주제에 부수적인 존재로
나타나기 때문에 천사 자체에 대한 정확한
연구가 어렵다.

human or divine (왕상 19:2)

Their Origin, Nature and
Status 근원, 속성, 지위

(1) Angels are spiritual beings; they have neither
souls nor bodies for souls to occupy. They were
created by God. There is a great number of them.
 영적인 존재로서 혼도 없고 육신도 없는
존재로 창조되었다. 성경에는 그 숫자가
무수히 많다고 표현하고 있다.
 (2) They are invisible but can appear in the form
of a human being. 사람의 눈에 보이지 않지만
인간의 모양으로 나타날 수 있다.
Their Capacities and Powers
천사의 능력
(1) 인격적인 존재:
 지성과 의지 소유.
 They are personal beings which means they
can interact with. They have intelligence
and will.
 도덕성 소유. They are also moral
creatures.



(2) 제한된 초월적 능력:
They possess great knowledge but not
omniscience. 놀라운 지식을 가졌으나
전지하지는 않다.
 They have great and superhuman power but not
omnipotence. 엄청난 능력을 가졌으나
전능하지는 않다.
 This power is from God and they remain
dependent on his will to exercise it. 모든 능력이
하나님께로 기인한 것으로 하나님의 뜻에 따라
능력을 사용해야 한다.
Their Activities
천사의 사역 5 가지
(1) Angels continuously praise and glorify God. (욥
38:7) 끊임없이 하나님을찬양하고 그에게
영광을 돌린다.
(2) Angels reveal and communicate God's
message to man. (행 7:53) 하나님의 뜻을
인간에게 계시하고 알린다.
(3) Angels minister to believers. (행 5:19;
12:6-11) 성도들을 섬긴다.
(4) Angels execute judgment upon the
enemies of God. (삼하 24:16; 출 14:19-20)
하나님을 대적하는 자들을 심판한다.
(5) Angels will be involved in the
second coming. (마 25:31) 예수님의
재림과 관련되어 있다.

The Status of Demonology Today
귀신에 대한 3 가지 잘못된 견해
(1) Demythologization : Rudolph Bultmann
귀신은 없다. 자연적인 현상을 무식한
고대인들이 귀신의 탓으로 돌린 것이다.
(2) 귀신의 비인격화 Depersonalization of
demons : Paul Tillich
Demonic is viewed as a characterization of
powerful social forces and structures rather
than personal beings. Evil being part of the
very structure of reality.
귀신을 인격적인 존재로 보기보다는
인간사회에 내재하는 비인격인적인
사회악이나 구조적인 문제로 인식한다.
(3) 귀신을 천사와 완전히 별개이며 대립된
존재로 보는 견해. Antithesis between demons
and angels : Karl Barth

They have nothing in common. There is an
absolute and exclusive antithesis between the
two. The origin and nature of demons lie in
nothingness, chaos, darkness.
 귀신의 근원과 속성은 하나님의 창조를
창조이전부터 위협했던 공허와 혼돈과 어둠에
있다.
 They are not created by God, but are part of the
threat to God's creation.
The Origin of Demon
귀신의 근원

Demons, then, are angels created by God and thus
were originally good; but they sinned and thus
became evil. This rebellion must have occurred
between the time when God completed the
creation and pronounced it all “very good,” and
the fall of man (Gen. Ch.3).
 귀신도 하나님이 당초에 선하게 창조했으나
반역함으로 악한 존재로 화한 천사들이며
이들의 반역은 창세기 2장 천지장조와 창세기
3장 인간의 타락사이에 일어났음에 틀림없다.
The Chief of the Demons
귀신들의 대장

Hebrew name "satan" derives from the verb which means
to be or act as adversary. Greek word satan is just a
transliteration of this Hebrew name. However, Satan is
also called devil, adversary, accuser.
 귀신들의 대장을 부르는 말로 흔히 히브리어로서
반역하다라는 뜻에서 유래한 “사탄”이란 호칭을
사용한다. 또한 이간질하는 자란 뜻의 희랍어
“디아볼로스”를 영어로 그대로 사용한 “데블” (마귀),
대적, 무고하는 자 등을 사용하기도 한다. 결국 이
명칭들은 마귀의 속성이나 역할을 명칭화한 것이지
원래의 이름은 아니다.
Activities of Demons
귀신의 역할 3 가지
(1) 사단의 부하로서 이 세상에서 사단의 일을
수행하여 온갖 유혹과 기만에 종사한다.
 As Satan's subjects, demons carry out his work in
the world and engage in all the forms of
temptation and deception.
(2) 육신적인 질병을 유발한다.
They inflict disease: dumbness (Mark
9:17), deafness and dumbness (Mark 9:25),
blindness and deafness (Matt.12:22),
convulsions (Mark 1:26; 9:20; Luke 9:39),
paralysis or lameness (Acts 8:7).
(3) 하나님의 백성들의 영적발전을
방해한다.
 They oppose the spiritual progress of God's
people (Eph 6:12).

Terminology 용어

The technical expression is to "have a
demon" or to "be demonized." Sometimes
we find expressions like “unclean
spirits”더러운 영들 (Acts 8:7) or “evil
spirits” 악한 영들 (Acts 19:12).







(1) 육신적 질병을 유발하는 경우도 있다.
Some physical ailments might be inflicted by
demons.
(2) 귀신들린 자는 비정상적인 힘을
소유하거나 비정상적인 행동을 하거나
자기방어에 급급한 행동을 하기도 한다.
Those demonized may have unusual strength,
act in bizarre ways, or may engage in selfdestructive behavior.
(3) 귀신들린 자는 육신적, 정서적, 영적 자해를
범한다.
Physical, emotional, or spiritual destruction is
involved.
(4) 귀신도 말할 수 있고 짐승의 몸에
거할 수 있다.
 Demons are able to speak and to inhabit
animals.
 (5) 그러나 모든 질병이 귀신들린 것과
관련된 것은 아니다.
 However, the biblical writers did not
attribute all illness to demon possession.

Jesus’ Healing and
Demon Possession
예수님의 신유사역과 귀신들린
현상

(1) 예수님은 두 가지의 고침을
구분하셨다. Jesus distinguished the two
types of healing.

(Luke 13:32) 가라사대 가서 저 여우에게
이르되 오늘과 내일 내가 귀신을
쫓아내며 병을 낫게 하다가 제 삼 일에는
완전하여지리라 하라

(2) Nor was epilepsy mistaken for demon
possession. 때로 간질은 귀신들린 결과이지만
구분하여 기록된 곳도 있다.

(Matt 17:15) 주여 내 아들을 불쌍히 여기소서
저가 간질로 심히 고생하여 자주 불에도
넘어지며 물에도 넘어지는지라 . . . (18) 이에
예수께서 꾸짖으시니 귀신이 나가고 아이가
그때부터 나으니라
 (Matt 4:24) 그의 소문이 온 수리아에 퍼진지라
사람들이 모든 앓는 자 곧 각색 병과 고통에
걸린 자 귀신 들린 자 간질하는 자
중풍병자들을 데려오니 저희를 고치시더라


(3) In the case of numerous healings no mention is
made of demons. 많은 병고침의 경우 귀신이
언급되지 않는다. (마8:5-13; 9:19-20)


예수님이 귀신을 쫓아내신 경우 어떤 특별한
방법은 없다. 때로는 그냥 명령하셨고 (막1:25),
성령의 역사라고 하셨고 (마12:28), 그 제자들에게
귀신 쫓는 권세를 주셨으며 (마10:1), 제자들이
믿음을 가져야 귀신을 능히 쫓아낼 수 있음을
(마17:19-20) 말씀하셨다.



기도의 필요성 강조 (막9:29), 제삼자의 믿음이
(막9:23-24) 강조되기도 하였다. 경우에 따라서
귀신은 귀신들린 자의 소원과 관계없이 쫓겨
나가기도 한다.

귀신들린 현상 연구시 3 가지
주의사항

(1) There is no reason to believe that demon
possessions are restricted to the past.

귀신들림이 과거에 국한된 것이라고
보아야 할 특별한 이유는 없다. 특히
문명이 덜 발달한 곳에서 귀신이
원인이라고 설명될 수밖에 없는 일이
많이 발생함을 볼 수 있다.

(2) One should not too quickly attribute
aberrant physical and psychical phenomena
to demon possession.

우리는 귀신 들림의 가능성에 대하여
경계해야 한다. 동시에 물리적, 정신적
현상을 너무 쉽게 귀신의 짓이라고
단정해서도 안된다.


(3) Satan may be encouraging interest in demon
possession in hopes that Christians will become
careless about other more subtle forms of influence
by the powers of evil.

최근에 귀신 들림에 대하여 상당히 관심이
고조되고 있다. 그 결과 어떤 그리스도인들은
이것을 주된 마귀의 공격으로 보는 경향이
있다. 그러나 실제로 거짓의 아비인 사탄은 더
미묘한 형태의 악의 영향력을 간과하게 하기
위해서 귀신들림에 관심을 쏟게 하는 것은
아닌지….
The Role of the Doctrine of
Angels
천사론의 3 가지 주요역할
(1) It is comfort and an encouragement to us
to realize that there are powerful and
numerous unseen agents available to help us
in our need.
우리가 어려운 상황에 처했을 때에
우리를 도와줄 수 있는 강력한 존재들이
무수히 존재한다는 사실은 우리에게
많은 위로와 격려가 된다.

(2) The angel's praise and service of
God give us an example of how we
are to conduct ourselves now and
what our activity will be in the life
beyond God's presence.

천사들이 현재 하나님을 찬양하고
섬기는 것 자체가 우리가 현재 어떠한
삶의 본이 될 뿐 아니라 성도의 미래의
역할이 무엇인지 미리 알 수 있게 해 준다.

(3) It sobers us to realize that even
angels who were close to God
succumbed to temptation and fell.

하나님과 그토록 가까웠던
천사들마저도 유혹에 넘어가
타락했다는 사실이 죄의 문제가 얼마나
심각한 것이지 새삼 절감하고 우리를
겸비하게 한다.

(4) Knowledge about evil angels serves to
alert us to the danger and subtlety of
temptation which can be expected to
come from satanic forces, and gives
insight into some of the devils ways of
working.

마귀와 악의 영들에 대한 지식을 가짐으로서
장차 사단의 세력으로부터 닥칠 공교한 시험과
위험을 직시할 수 있게 해 주고 저들의 전술을
미리 알고 효과적으로 대처할 수 있는 전략을
세우게 해 준다.

(5) We receive confidence from the
realization that powerful though Satan and
his accomplices are, there are definite
limits upon what they can do. We can,
therefore, by the grace of God, resist
Satan successfully.

마귀와 그 졸개들이 비록 강한 능력을
소유하고 있다 할 지라도 그들의 능력에는
뚜렷한 한계가 있음을 알기 때문에 하나님의
은혜로 우리가 사단을 성공적으로 대적할 수
있음을 깨닫게 해 준다.
