8 Parts of Speech Review Nouns, Pronouns, Verbs, Adjectives, Adverbs, Prepositions, Interjections, Conjunctions Noun • Person, place, thing or idea – Dog, cat, boy, lady, love, river, respect, city Pronoun • Word used in place of a noun – I, you, she, he, it, we, you, they Verb • Two types… – Action Verb: shows action • Turn, look, run, see, become, grow – Linking Verb: links subject to noun or an adjective in the predicate part of the sentence • Is, are, was, were, am, been Adjectives • Describes a noun or pronoun – Beautiful sunset – Dedicated runner – Sunny morning Preposition • Relates a noun or pronoun to another word in the sentence. – In front of the cow. • For, on, to, up, at, under, above, toward, with, between, in, from Interjection • Expressive word Wow, that is a beautiful car. Ah, what a cute baby. Huh, what did you say? Conjunction • Connects words or individual groups of words – And, but, or, nor, for, so, yet, either, neither
