• Total Canadian exports of machinery to Latin
America and the Caribbean (LAC) in 2011 was
$1.04B
• Just four countries - Brazil, Chile, Colombia and
Peru - accounted for $678M or 64% of the total
• import of machinery is growing in 8 of the top 10
LAC markets
• Export sales in this category have grown about
10% since 2007

• Growing wealth and middle-class in Latin America and the
Caribbean (LAC)
• Implementation of free trade agreements, which lower
tariffs on machinery
• Growth in machinery-intensive sectors in LAC, eg
