The population of China in July 2007 is
1,321,518,888 and is still got a growing in
population. The language spoken in China is
Chinese and English. The capital city in China
is Beijing and Beijing is also holding the 2008
Olympics. China is the fourth largest country in
the world. China does also speak more English
then The United States of America.
Ice cream was invented in China
around 2000BC when the Chinese packed
a soft milk and rice mixture
in the snow. China is the fourth largest
country in the world. China is sometimes a
day ahead of the United States. Each year
is represented by an animal according to
what year you are born. Long ago silk
making was a secret, if anyone told
somebody the secret they could get killed.
It is considered good luck in China if your
gate faces south. Red is the lucky colour
for China even wedding dresses used to
be red.

The tourist attractions in China are: The Great Wall of China
which stretches all over China and is over 6,000 Km’s long.
The Terracotta warriors This includes an incredible collection
of 6,000 men and their horses. The warriors are over 2000
years old and were originally constructed to protect the tomb
of the Emperor Qin Shi Huang. China has made lots of
inventions that has been brought into our everyday lives, like
umbrellas, gunpowder, the compass, paper and fireworks.
Most of these inventions have been made long ago, some of
them made even before Christ!

Greece was the first place to hold the Olympics in 1896. As it is
the first holder of the Olympic games, they got to choose how
many countries got to play in the games. So they chose 14
countries, including New Zealand.

The Bids Nest
The Most Used
Stadiums of Beijing
The Water Cube
The Chinese have spend around 40 BILLION dollars on the making of the
Water Cube and The Bids Nest. And I think it has all paid off as the Olympics
is always being watched, and Beijing has made some wonderful stadiums
which Olympic records have been broken and new ones are set.
The Opening Ceremony
The Olympic ceremony was the only one with that
much fireworks, it was a definite blast and the
most of the world was watching, and cheering on
their country. The opening ceremony included the
Olympic mascots (pictured below). The Olympic
mascots consist of the colours of the rings, blue,
black, red, yellow and green.
China has many tourist attractions
including the famous, The Great Wall of
China, and The Forbidden Temple. The
Great Wall has been made to protect the
Emperor Quin Shi Huangdi from the
Mongolians, and The Forbidden City,
which is obviously forbidden apart from all
of the tourists and staff that work there
BUT did you know there still is an emperor
who says weather you can come in or not.
This year the basketball was in the Olympics
in Beijing and USA won. In a match between
them and Spain, USA won and got the gold
medal and Spain settled for silver. The other
final for Bronze was between Argentina and
Lithuania, and Argentina got bronze. The
Beijing mascot Huanhuan is good at ball
games and that includes basketball.
Swimming is one of the most
famous Olympic event, and since
Michael Phelps is doing the sport I
think everyone would want to see
him swim.
Michael Phelps is a swimming
legend as he has set many world
record and he got into the history
books. At this Olympics Phelps has
got eight gold medals and eleven
gold medals in total, the most
anyone has in the world.
It started in the late ’60s with
California kids on Schwinn bicycles
imitating motocross riders on
vacant lots, and ultimately
developing their own sport. Now,
four decades later, BMX has left
those makeshift tracks for the
largest sports stage in the world. Is
BMX ready for the Olympics?
Perhaps the better question is
whether the Olympics are ready for
BMX.
BMX, short for Bicycle Motocross
is a brand new event this year in
the Beijing Olympics
and joins road, track, and
mountain bike events to make
bike racing the most exciting sport
in the 2008 Games.
Sarah Walker started BMXing in 1999 following the
footsteps of her brother. Showing she had talent from the
get go by winning in her first ever nationals and hasn't
slowed down since.
She has consistently been a strong competitor in Oceania
and is proving her self amongst European racers too as
she held first ranking for UCI points.
The biggest result Sarah has achieved was becoming
World Champion in Canada earlier this year where she
dominated the competition and nailed every jump to give
her a very convincing win
Born in Melbourne, Australia Mahe Drysdale
began rowing in a university at the age of 18. He
gave up rowing to concentrate on his studies, but
started rowing after watching Rob Waddell win
gold at Sydney. Drysdale began competing at
world cup level in 2002, rowing in the New
Zealand coxless four. After the 2004 Olympic
games, in which his N.Z crew finished 5th in the
final, Drysdale switched to single sculling,
winning the 2005 world championship in Japan.
Drysdale is a member of the West End rowing
club in Avondale, Auckland, N.Z and Tideway
Scullers, London.
Michael is a sporting legend, he has broke
many world records and has got 8 gold
medals in the 2008 Olympics, that is more
than anybody else in the world. He has also
got 14 gold medals in total which surprised
and bet Mark Spitz, With 7 gold medals also
from swimming. Phelps also has also won 6
gold( which contributes to the 14 golds) and 2
bronze at the 2004 Olympics in Athens.
