International School
Padova, 26-30 April 2016
The Roots of Food develops the scientific experience of the Food, Cultures and
Societies research group, participating in the Doctoral Program in Social Sciences and
contributing to the activities of the research group Globi-Lab at FISPPA.
The School adopts an interdisciplinary approach which includes socio-cultural studies
and agro-food sciences, and conducts theoretical and applied research. During the five
days lectures, seminars and workshops will explore various foodscapes from past to
present, showing multicultural and mixed tastes and languages, the mobility in styles
of consumption, revealing new forms of conviviality and addressing controversial
questions regarding future food security and its sustainability. Furthermore, the
program includes visits and meetings with different institutions: Botanical Garden,
Agripolis and Camolino Dairy Cooperative. The School also profits from the
collaboration with VIU and the Ethnographic Museum of Seravella.
The five days program is open to Postgraduate students, researchers, scholars and
professionals with a high degree of motivation. They are expected to have a strong
interest in the topic of critical analysis of food production and consumption.
For the successful completion of the International School students will receive
a certificate from the University of Padova.
