Stijn: Het eerst kwart waarin het verhaal wordt opgezet vond ik niet zo heel interessant en
weinig vlot om lezen. Gelukkig komt het verhaal daarna in een serieuze stroomversnelling:
flashbacks naar de 2e wereldoorlog met 2 goeie plotwendingen (of eerder anderhalve
aangezien de eerste gewoon op de achterflap te lezen valt...). Om daarna terug te keren naar
het heden met 2 quasi onleesbare hoofdstukken. Dat de razende, bijna onbegrijpbare monoloog
van het hoofdpersonage symbool moet staan voor Hitler's karakter wil ik gerust aannemen,
maar echt aangenaam om lezen vond ik het dus niet. Het laatste deel heeft terug een goeie
opflakkering (opnieuw flashbacks) en ook het absolute einde is goed gevonden.
Moeilijk dus om dit boek te beoordelen. Het heeft zeker zijn momenten, en hoe het
hoofdpersonage met Hitler verweven wordt is knap gedaan, maar als geheel ben ik er dus niet
onverdeeld enthousiast over.

I like WOII books in general, but Siegfried took it to a whole new level. I really appreciate the
idea behind the book: understanding Hitler.
If you're into philosophy and music, this is the book for you. There are a lot of references to
philosophers and a few to composers. It was one of the many aspects of the book I enjoyed.
Herter's theory at the end was quite funky, which was great!
Herter as Mulisch' alter ego was funny! I recognised “De uitvinding van de liefde” immediately
as “De ontdekking van de hemel.” and Mulisch and Heter have both written about Eichmann. I
got the “I see what you did there” feeling, which was nice.
There were descriptions of how people and buildings looked, but they weren't abundant, but just
right. The languague ('form') was easy to understand, but I still thought this was a deep book
concerning content.
I had no difficulty getting through it. The story flows well. I promise that you'll have finished it
really, really quickly.
I don't really have much to say about this amazing book. It was just a good read.
Timmy Geleyn: Eén van de betere boeken van Mulisch. Het is geen geheim dat het
hoofdpersonage Mulisch zelf is, maar dat geeft dit boek juist dat beetje meer. Zeker omdat we
de typische Mulisch-trekken terugvinden in het hoofdpersonage.
Het boek heeft een mooie opbouw en de filosofische redevoering waarin Mulisch een bewijs
tracht te leveren van Hitlers beweegredenen waarom hij was wie hij was is op zijn zachtst
gezegd geniaal. Het zou de heer Mulisch zijn torenhoge ego strelen. Maar omdat de
redevoering net iets te lang duurt naar mijn mening, krijgt 'Siegfried' geen 5 sterren (al heb ik
toch even getwijfeld). Mooie afsluiter van het schrijverschap van een groot schrijver.
