Taste
Florence’s ultimate food fair celebrating gourmet
culture and lifestyle trends brings some 330 exhibitors to town with their best delicacies in tow.
Pasta fresca and craft beers are par for the course,
but those with more adventurous palates can try
everything from goose bresaola to chocolate-andchili pepper cookies. This year the Taste Ring, a series of panel discussions moderated by Davide ‘Il
Gastronauta’ Paolini, takes place at the Opera di
Firenze for the first time. For the full program, including Fuori di Taste festivities at venues around
Florence, see Pitti Immagine’s website (link at left).
Scott Matthew
Australian-born, New York Citybased songsmith Scott Matthew will
grace Florence with his suave voice
and bubbly presence March 10. The
singer-songwriter is now touring
with his latest album This Here Defeat, praised by critics and audiences
worldwide. Uncut magazine said of
Matthew, ‘Self-pitying, passive-aggressive narcissism never sounded
so lovely.’ Spazio Alfieri is an appropriately intimate venue for tuning in
to his tales of love and loss.

Fatboy Slim
Thought Norman Cook, better known as
Fatboy Slim, disappeared after the ’90s?
Think again. The British Big Beat musician, DJ
and record producer known for singles ‘The
Rockafeller Skank’ and ‘Praise You’ will bring
his funky sound to Tenax. The night will also
include a live set from Frase and Florentines
Ckrono & Slesh. Ages 18 and up; must have
a valid ID. Purchase tickets via the link at left
(still available as we closed this TF Weekly.)
Korea in Florence!
South Korea comes to Tuscany this month with the return of
the Florence Korea FIlm Festival, where all of the movies will
be subtitled in English. This week’s top screening will be The
Shameless, a noir film and the festival opener (9pm, March
11). But this celebration isn’t just about cinema–there will
be a free opening party on at Move On in piazza del Duomo
(10pm, March 10) and an open-air martial arts demonstration
in piazza della Repubblica (3pm, March 12). Looking ahead,
mark your calendar for ‘Feeling Korea,’ the free closing event
at Teatro Niccolini (9pm, March 18). The evening will include a
mix of traditional and contemporary Korean dance and music.
Hidden Florence
The inaugural edition of the Tuscan Anglo American
Festival is currently underway and one of the highlights
is set for Friday morning. Students at the Istituto Lorenzo
de’ Medici and Marist College will offer free guided tours
(in Italian and English) of the Church of San Jacopo in
Campo Corbolini, which is usually closed to the public.
Founded in the 13th century and originally belonging
to the Knights Templar, the church houses a selection
of fascinating sculptures, tombs and paintings that few
people in Florence get to see. Guided tours will begin
every 30 minutes and will begin with a screening of the
short documentary Expats in Florence: Artists and Artisans, spotlighting members of Florence’s creative community. You must book ahead for your preferred time
slot; email [email protected].
