Uffizi Virtual Experience is the first
digital exhibition in Italy dedicated
to the Uffizi Gallery. Visitors go on
an interactive experience, a journey
through four hundred years of Italian
art history, through sophisticated
immersive video projections
created with 40 Canon multimedia
projectors (27 XEED WUX500 and
13 XEED WUX450).
our work capturing images - have been
excellent. For our exhibition, we have
chosen Canon XEED video projectors
because we found the same quality: that’s
why the technological partnership with
Canon came about. It was strategic for
the development of new projects too.
Uniform brightness
The XEED range lenses
ensure even brightness
throughout the entire
zoom range. This is a
defining feature since the
installation demands
several projectors placed
at varying distances from
the screen.
Canon is the Digital Imaging Partner
for this event devoted to Italian art
and wonderful artistic heritage.

Quality: the core value of
the project
“Our company – Paolo De Rocco,
Head of Digital Imaging and
Events at Virtuitaly, tells us – has
been using Canons for years; the
gigapixel image resolution that we
are projecting in Milan was done
using Canon devices. The high
resolution of the sensors, lack of
noise, wide range of lenses and
flexibility without compromise in
terms of quality - the core value of
100%
Colour fidelity
Uffizi Virtual Experience
is an event that highlights
excellent quality in all
its forms: from works
of priceless beauty to
the EOS cameras used
to digitize them, to the
colour fidelity of XEED
projectors.
“”
“When we tried
the Canon
XEED WUX450
and WUX500
projectors, we
were impressed by
the colour quality
and their ability
to maintain even
brightness across
the entire focus.
The aspect ratio at
16:10 also turned
out to be better
for the works
projected in the
exhibition”.

Emotional User Experience
The Uffizi Virtual Experience is
presented in two sections: an
immersive part devoted to viewing
the works, in a journey from Giotto’s
13th century to Caravaggio’s
17th century, and a recreational,
experiential and educational
interactive section using Uffizi
Touch® technology.
The exhibition includes 1150 works
from the Uffizi Gallery and takes
the visitor on a cultural experience
where quality content meets
spectacular form: Maestà by
Giotto, Annunciation by Leonardo
da Vinci, The Birth of Venus and
Spring by Botticelli, Madonna del
Cardellino by Raffaello, Doni Tondo
by Michelangelo, Venus of Urbino
by Titian and Medusa by Caravaggio
are some of the masterpieces
headlining the exhibition. Through
the quality gigapixel images, the
visitor can discover the tiniest details
of the works, invisible to the naked
eye, accompanied by an impressive
soundtrack.
Modular and scalable
creation
“It took us two months to complete
the project and create the entire
installation” says Claudio Focardi,
Director of the Immersive Section
of Uffizi Virtual Experience. We
planned a space to “explore”, where
the visitor can find their own ending
and create a visual composition
of the many projected images. It
is a grand and elegant structure,
consisting of multiple projection
surfaces, created with just two
projection models. The visuals are
always the same, as are the lamps:
everything has been designed
to facilitate both installation
and maintenance. In addition,
the multiple dimension surfaces
guarantee uniform resolution and
brightness of the images. This
scalable and pragmatic setting
supports a calendar of events that
will be held not only in Italy but at
international level, so we can handle
multiple exhibitions at the same
time”.
