Information about the Utrecht Centraal to Den Haag
Centraal and Rotterdam Centraal routes
During the morning peak period it is crowded on the Utrecht Centraal to Den Haag Centraal and
Rotterdam Centraal routes. One of the causes is the work we are carrying out at Utrecht Centraal,
where work is being done on the platforms. As a result, the available platform length is less than
normal this year. This means that the trains to Den Haag and Rotterdam are not as long as we
would like. Passengers in the busy morning peak period are particularly affected.
We would like to tell you which trains are affected. And if you are not tied to a particular time, we
can say what you can do to make your journey more pleasant.

Tips for a pleasant journey
When is it busy?
An Intercity runs every 15 minutes on your route. Even so, it can be crowded. The front of this flyer
shows you the occupancy figures for these trains between 07:02 and 08:32 on regular weekday
mornings. You may be able to travel more comfortably if you take an earlier or later train.
What measures is NS taking?
NS is taking a variety of measures to limit crowding as much as possible. We are working on
providing extra rolling stock by running old double-deckers and structural use of spare trains.
What can you do to make the trip less stressful?
•If you are only going as far as Gouda, take the Intercity to Rotterdam
Centraal. It leaves three minutes after the Intercity to Den Haag Centraal
(from the same platform) and it is quieter as a result.
•Is the train made up of multiple train sets? There is often still room at
the back of the train in such cases.
•Consult the Reisplanner Xtra travel planner app before leaving. This
shows the current departure times and an indicator showing how
crowded the train is: 1, 2 or 3 human figures. You can also see the
train composition in the Reisplanner Xtra travel planner app, under
‘Train details’.
Any more questions?
We will be pleased to help. You can find more information about crowding on the trains at
ns.nl/drukketreinen.
It gives more details of why they are crowded and what NS is doing about it. Or you can contact
NS Customer Service by phone on 030–7515155. We’re ready and waiting, day and night.
