In addition to the production of coins the Italian
Mint issues several highly appreciated medals,
among them the Calendar Medals in bronze and
silver with enamel which have been issued every
year since 1981. The Calendar medal 2013 is
dedicated to Germany and to the work of the
painter Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, one of the
founders of the artists group “Die Brücke " (The
Bridge) leading to the foundation of Expressionism in 20th-century art.
