However, Radio Bahrain's English service has not been reported on 6010 kHz since August 2012.
Cyprus FG Radio is part of the Famagusta Gazette and seeks to provide a window on the diverse
perspectives and issues in Cyprus and Europe today, both online and via radio broadcasts. They are
committed to a goal of being a reliable source of information with relevant, interesting and thoughtprovoking programmes for those with an interest in this part of the world. The radio service broadcasts the
"FG News Review" and "Anything Goes".
Cyprus Broadcasting Corporation Greek-language programming on shortwave via the BBC East Mediterranean Relay Station was discontinued in January 2013.
BBC East Mediterranean Relay Station, operated by Babcock for BBC relays mainly to the Middle East,
West Asia and North Africa, closed at the end of March 2013.
Radio Bayrak International, the external service of Bayrak Radio and Television Corporation, the official
radio and television broadcasting corporation of the self-proclaimed Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus,
had broadcast on 6150 kHz from a 25 kW transmitter, but is now inactive.
Egypt The Egyptian Radio and Television Union is owned and operated by the Egyptian government.
Following its inauguration in 1934, the Egyptian Broadcasting Corporation, as it was then called,
developed slowly until the emergance of Colonel Nasser in 1952 when Egyptian radio's coverage and
influence rapidly grew throughout the Arab World and North Africa. The General Programme, Voice of the
Arabs, and the Radio Cairo external service are currently broadcast on shortwave from Egypt.
The General Programme is the ERTU's flagship radio service. It was founded in 1934. Although intended
primarily for a domestic audience, it has traditionally been broadcast on shortwave for Arabic-speaking
listeners outside of Egypt.
Radio Cairo was founded in 1953 and is the external service of Egyptian radio. It has traditionally served
listeners outside of the Arab world with its African and overseas services. Radio Cairo shortwave
transmissions may be extremely distored or have very low audio quality.
Iran IRIB World Service is the official international broadcasting radio network of Iran and has an
extensive schedule to all parts of the world in many languages.
In addition IRIB Arabic broadcasts around the clock to the Arab World. IRIB transmitters also host AlQuds TV audio and the Voice of the Islamic Palestinian Revolution that broadcast to listeners in Palestine
and neighbouring countries.
Radio Farda ("Radio Tomorrow") is a joint venture between RFE/RL and the Voice of America and
broadcasts around the clock in Persian on shortwave to listeners in Iran.
Other target broadcasts to Iran on shortwave are Radio Payam-e Doost, a Bahá’í faith radio programme
in Persian, and Radio Ranginkaman (Radio Rainbow), a programme for LGBT communities in Iran,
Afghanistan, and Tajikistan. Both are from transmitters in eastern Europe and/or Central Asia.
Iraq There are currently no official broadcasts on shortwave from Iraq.
Israel Kol Israel is Israel's public domestic and international radio service, operated as a division of the
Israel Broadcasting Authority. All shortwave services, with the exception of broadcasts in Persian, were
discontinued on 31 March 2008. The Persian service was subsequently discontinued on 30 June 2013.
Galei Zahal - Israel Defence Forces Broadcasting Station is a nationwide radio network operated by the
Israel Defence Forces. In December 2013 shortwave transmissions were discontinued.
2
Jordan Jordan Radio and Television is the state broadcaster of Jordan. Shortwave broadcasts have
been discontinued.
Kurdish-speaking areas Denge Kurdistan (Voice of Kurdistan) broadcasts from studios located in
Belgium between 0400-2200 daily on 9400 kHz using various transmitters in Europe.
Kuwait Radio Kuwait is the state-operated broadcasting service of Kuwait. Shortwave transmissions
appear to have been discontinued with nothing having been heard since early July 2015.
The IBB Relay Station in Kuwait is fully operational and broadcasts several IBB services to Africa, Asia
and the Middle East.
Lebanon Radio Lebanon is the state-operated broadcasting service of Lebanon. It was last on shortwave
in 1984.
Oman Radio Sultanate of Oman is the state-operated broadcasting service of Oman and broadcasts
around the clock in Arabic and English on a single frequency at any one time.
The BBC Eastern Relay Station is operated by Babcock for relays of BBC to the Middle East and Asia.
State of Palestine Al-Quds TV is a Palestinian satellite channel broadcast which began broadcasting in
November 2008. The TV audio in Arabic is relayed on shortwave between 0220-0520 via IRIB
transmitters in Iran. Voice of the Islamic Palestinian Revolution originates from Iran in support of
Palestinian groups.
Qatar Qatar Broadcasting Service was last heard on shortwave in 2002.
Saudi Arabia The Saudi Broadcasting Corporation (SBC) is a governmental entity of Saudi Arabia,
organised under the Ministry of Culture and Information. SBC operates almost all broadcasting outlets in
the Kingdom. On shortwave, SBC currently broadcasts Radio Riyadh (the General Programme), the
Qur'an Service, The Call of Islam, the External Service, and Radio Saudi Internationale in French.
Syria Radio Damascus is the state-operated external broadcasting service of Syria. Shortwave
transmissions have been discontinued, presumably due to the on-going conflict in Syria.
Turkey The Turkish Radio and Television Corporation (TRT) is the national public broadcaster of Turkey.
The TRT domestic service in Turkish is relayed on shortwave to the expatriot community around the world.
Voice of Turkey is the TRT external broadcasting service and broadcasts in many languages to different
parts of the world.
United Arab Emirates The Dhabbaya Transmitting Station in Abu Dhabi is owned by Emirates Media
and operated/maintained by Babcock. It relays several international broadcasting stations.
Yemen Republic of Yemen Radio is the state broadcasting service of Yemen. During the current civil war
in the country shortwave transmissions direct from Yemen are unheard.
However, Chris Greenway reported via DXLD on 20 October 2015 the existence of a broadcast on
shortwave in support of Yemeni President Abdrabbuh Mansur Hadi. President Hadi, who was deposed by
Houthi rebels in 2014 and subsequently fled to Saudi Arabia in March 2015, recently returned to the
southern city of Aden to reportedly superivse an offensive against rebels. Tarek Zeidan reported an ID at
2000 UTC on 20 October 2015 as "Huna Sana'a idhaat aljumhuriya alyamaniya al bernamaj al a'am"
("This is Sana'a, Republic of Yemen Radio General Programme, with news about the return of the Yemeni
president to Aden"). Tarek adds that according to some sources there are two transmissions, the first one
from 0700 to 1200 and the second one from 2100 to 0200. Tarek checked the audio stream of Sana'a
online and there was a different feed talking about the Saudi invasion of Yemen, so that was operated by
the Houthi rebels supporting the former president of Yemen Ali Abdul Allah Saleh. According to an online
source the pro-Hadi transmission on shortwave is from Aden, but based on the fact that Yemen is having
problems with power and a lot of blackouts, leaving the greater part of Yemen without electricity, it must
be coming from a nearby country, presumably Saudi Arabia.

Yemen
Republic of Yemen Radio - Radio Sana'a
Republic of Yemen Radio is the state broadcasting service of Yemen. During the current civil war in the
country shortwave transmissions direct from Yemen are unheard.
Target Broadcast to Yemen
Republic of Yemen Radio - Radio Sana'a - Pro-Hadi
Chris Greenway reported via DXLD on 20 October 2015 the existence of a broadcast on shortwave in
support of Yemeni President Abdrabbuh Mansur Hadi. President Hadi, who was deposed by Houthi
rebels in 2014 and subsequently fled to Saudi Arabia in March 2015, recently returned to the southern city
of Aden to reportedly superivse an offensive against rebels. Tarek Zeidan reported an ID at 2000 UTC on
20 October 2015 as "Huna Sana'a idhaat aljumhuriya alyamaniya al bernamaj al a'am" ("This is Sana'a,
Republic of Yemen Radio General Programme, with news about the return of the Yemeni president to
Aden"). Tarek adds that according to some sources there are two transmissions, the first one from 0700
to 1200 and the second one from 2100 to 0200. Tarek checked the audio stream of Sana'a online and
there was a different feed talking about the Saudi invasion of Yemen, so that was operated by the Houthi
rebels supporting the former president of Yemen Ali Abdul Allah Saleh. According to an online source the
pro-Hadi transmission on shortwave is from Aden, but based on the fact that Yemen is having problems
14
with power and a lot of blackouts, leaving the greater part of Yemen without electricity, it must be coming
from a nearby country, presumably Saudi Arabia.
Transmitter Site: subject to confirmation, but believed to be in Saudi Arabia.
