Short description of the Master
programme
The Master programme is a Laurea Magistrale (second-level
university degree in the Italian system). The lessons are held in
Firenze by teachers belonging to the Department of Statistics,
Computer Science, Applications “G. Parenti”. The Laurea
Magistrale has three curricula, namely ‘Statistics’, ‘Actuarial
and Financial Sciences’, and the new EMOS curriculum ‘Official
Statistics’. The courses of the first year, which are common to
all the curricula, provide a strong background in inference and
statistical modelling. The curriculum ‘Official Statistics’ includes
an EMOS module with a course about methods and tools for
official statistics and a course on sampling theory; in addition,
the semi-elective courses aim at developing competences in
fields closely related to official statistics, including
econometrics, demography, social statistics, and spatial
statistics. The curriculum ‘Official Statistics’ also includes an
internship of about 8 weeks for introducing students to the
practice of official statistics and a thesis on a project merging
methodological content and relevance for official statistics.
