Duca di Salaparuta: awards 2014
Great recognition for Florio, Corvo and Duca di Salaparuta wines from the most prestigious Italian guides
and international magazines also in 2014. Duca Enrico, an icon of Italian winemaking which celebrates its
first 30 years this year, was honoured with 5 Clusters 2014 by Bibenda, the Guidebook to Italy’s best
Wines and Restaurants for the 2011 vintage, the title of Great Wine for the 2010 vintage in Slow Wine
2015, the highly successful guide to our country’s best wines published by Slow Food, and a score of 91 in
the Guida Essenziale ai Vini d'Italia with the 2009 vintage. However, fascination with Duca Enrico is not
limited to Italy… after Decanter and Wine Advocate, another top international magazine, Wine Spectator,
also decided to award high marks to this wine with a revolutionary spirit: 91 for the 2010 vintage.
Important recognition also for Donna Franca, the Florio Superiore Riserve marsala that ages in oak casks for
over 15 years and expresses the highest levels of elegance and evolution. For the second year running, it
was included among the Vini dell’Ecellenza by the Espresso Guide, and was awarded 5 Clusters 2014 by
Bibenda, the Guidebook to Italy’s best Wines and Restaurants. In addition, it was given a score of 92 in the
brand new Guida Essenziale ai Vini d'Italia and top honours by Vitae, the first edition of the Guide to
Italian Wines published by the Italian Association of Sommeliers.
Other Florio marsalas also caught the attention of industry experts. The editors of Guida Oro I Vini di
Veronelli 2015 awarded their Super Three Stars 2015 to Baglio Florio 2001; Terre Arse 2003, on the other
hand, was awarded the title Great Wine in Slow Wine 2015 and, last but not least, Targa Riserva 2003 was
awarded a Crown by Vinibuoni d’Italia, the only guide devoted to wines from indigenous grape varieties.
Corvo and Duca di Salaparuta wines also received recognition from Wine Spectator, one of the world’s
leading wine magazines. In addition to Duca Enrico, Bianca di Valguarnera 2011, another Duca di
Salaparuta icon, was also awarded an excellent score (90) as did some of the wines from the Duca di
Salaparuta Estates: Kados 2013 (88) and Passo delle Mule 2012 (88). That is not all, however, Corvo wines –
great Italian classics loved worldwide – also achieved excellent scores: Corvo Bianco 2013 (85), Corvo Rosso
2012 (86) and Corvo Moscato 2013 (85), available only on foreign markets.

Corvo Bianco and Corvo Rosso:
“… we’re talking about one of Italy’s most recognized and successful value brands. One can hardly argue
with the quality here given how exceptionally little they cost. I recently learned that both the Corvo Bianco
and the Rosso became Sicily’s first properly bottled commercial wines back in 1824”
May 30th 2014 – Monica Larner, Wine Advocate
