Note biografiche
Sono ricercatore presso il CNR-IIA Sezione di Rende (www.iia.cnr.it). Ho 23 anni
di esperienza di ricerca e sono stato coinvolto in numerosi progetti nazionali e
internazionali (EUROCAT, MERCYMS, ELME) con responsabilità legate ai GIS e
allo sviluppo di database ambientali, analisi statistica dei dati ambientali, tecniche
di telerilevamento e valutazione delle strategie ambientali per l’attuazione del
politiche europee. Attualmente ho la responsabilità di workpackage di progetti
finanziati dall’UE, che mirano a definire un approccio metodologico per l’attuazione
delle direttive marino nel Mediterraneo (KNOWSEAS, www.knowseas.com) e
stabilire un sistema interoperabile per una rete di monitoraggio mondiale di
mercurio (GMOS, www.gmos.eu). Sono responsabile del GEO-Lab orientato allo
sviluppo di metodologie e strumenti per collegare scienze e tecnologie attraverso
prodotti user-friendly. GEO-Lab gestisce la Cyber(e)-infrastructure dell’istituto
(sdi.iia.cnr.it). Sono delegato nazionale italiano nel UNECE-CLRTAP-WGE.
Sono componente del GEOSS 4th Evaluation Team designato dal GEO Italy, per
valutare l’implementazione del GEOSS Workplan. Sono responsabile dell’Unità
Operativa 3: Inventari delle Emissioni e Cyber(e)-Infrastructure del Centro
Nazionale di Riferimento sul Mercurio. Sono revisore per alcune riviste scientifiche
internazionali (ad esempio Atmospheric Environment, Environmental Pollution,
Environmental Monitoring & Assessment, Geoderma) e progetti di ricerca (FCT
Portogallo, FWF Austria, PRIN Italia). Sono iscritto Ho pubblicato oltre 125
articoli su riviste ISI, in capitoli di libri, lemmi enciclopedici, rapporti tecnici per
agenzie internazionali, atti di congressi internazionali e rapporti tecnici. H-index: 12
(Goolge scholar); 8 (Citation report).
Aree d’interesse
Principale argomenti di interesse sono: i) la valutazione delle emissioni di mercurio
a livello globale, con particolare riferimento alle emissioni di origine naturale, ii)
lo sviluppo di sistemi di analisi multi-disciplinare dell’inquinamento e iii) lo
sviluppo di strumenti di user-friendly per la gestione di dati ambientali. In
particolare, dal 2003 ho sviluppato nuove metodologie per la gestione delle informazioni
nelle valutazioni ambientali e applicazioni ambientali per l’integrazione delle scienze
ecologiche e socio-economiche in ambiente GIS. Questi nuovi metodi sono stati
applicati a progetti sulla gestione delle zone costiere (EUROCAT), in materia
di inquinamento chimico nel Mediterraneo (ELME, KNOWSEAS), in materia di
inquinamento mercurio (MERCYMS, ESPREME, OGM) e sullo sviluppo di sistemi
di gestione di dati ambientali (EGIDA, GMOS). Contribuisco, tramite valutazioni
dell’inquinamento da mercurio originato da sorgenti antropiche e naturali, ad alcune
partnership internazionali (UNEP, UNECE-CLRTAP).
