SICUREZZA COOPERATIVA E CRISI REGIONALI
L’avanzata del terrorismo e di forze estremiste in Iraq, Siria,
Libia, Sinai e altre aree, costituisce una minaccia vitale
alla stabilità e alla sicurezza comune del Mediterraneo e
del Golfo. L’adozione di risposte sinergiche e coordinate è
fondamentale per affrontare efficacemente un fenomeno
transnazionale e transfrontaliero che è anche la causa
principale delle drammatiche e irrisolte emergenze
riguardanti i rifugiati e l’immigrazione dai paesi del sud
del Mediterraneo verso l’Europa. La sessione prende in
esame i vari punti critici a livello regionale e i possibili
modi per migliorare la cooperazione e i partenariati
nella lotta al terrorismo, così come nella gestione e nella
prevenzione delle crisi umanitarie.

SVILUPPO SOCIO-ECONOMICO NEL SUD DEL MEDITERRANEO
Le rivolte scoppiate recentemente nel mondo arabo
hanno evidenziato l’esistenza di fattori di instabilità relativi
alla dimensione socio-economica, che di solito forniscono
alle forze radicali un terreno fertile da sfruttare. Risolvere
questioni tanto dirompenti come la disoccupazione
giovanile, la sicurezza alimentare e l’emarginazione
è indispensabile per la normalizzazione del processo
politico nei paesi attraversati da forti tensioni interne.
Questa sessione approfondisce le strategie per lo
sviluppo e la modernizzazione del sud del Mediterraneo,
con particolare attenzione alle sfide da affrontare per
promuovere la crescita economica.

Terza Sessione LA VIA DELLA MODERAZIONE E IL FUTURO DEL MEDIO
ORIENTE
Radicalismo e intolleranza sono oggi il principale
catalizzatore dei conflitti e della violenza che stanno
devastando l’intera regione. Una cultura e una politica
della moderazione devono pertanto prevalere sulle
rivalità e sulle animosità di natura settaria, così da
inaugurare una nuova era di sicurezza, integrazione, buon
governo e progresso comune. La sessione si concentra
sulle prospettive del dialogo interculturale e interreligioso,
sulla questione dell’educazione, sul futuro delle minoranze
e sul raggiungimento di un “nuovo ecumenismo” tra le
religioni e le loro diverse denominazioni, quale premessa
per la pacificazione dell’area.

COOPERATIVE SECURITY AND REGIONAL CRISES
The surge of terrorism and extremist forces in Iraq, Syria,
Libya, Sinai, and other relevant areas is a vital threat
undermining the stability and the common security of the
Mediterranean and the Gulf. The adoption of synergic
and coordinated responses is essential to effectively cope
with such a transnational and cross-border phenomenon,
being also the main cause of the dreadful and unsolved
emergencies affecting the refugees and the immigration
from southern Mediterranean countries to Europe. This
session examines the various regional flashpoints and the
possible ways to enhance cooperation and partnership
relations in counterterrorism, as well as in managing and
preventing humanitarian crises.

SOCIO-ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT IN THE SOUTHERN
MEDITERRANEAN
The unrest erupted throughout the Arab world in recent
years highlighted the existence of instability factors
pertaining to the socio-economic dimension, which usually
provide radical forces with a breeding ground to exploit.
To address disruptive questions such as youth unemployment,
food security, and marginalization is fundamental to
the normalization of the political process in the countries
affected by domestic turmoil. This session aims to relaunch
the strategies for the development and the modernization
of the southern Mediterranean, with a particular focus on the
challenges to be met in order to foster economic growth.

THE PATH TO MODERATION AND THE FUTURE OF THE
MIDDLE EAST
Radicalism and intolerance are the main catalysts of
the conflicts and violence marring the broader region
today. Therefore, moderation in the cultural and
political sphere must prevail over sectarian rivalries and
animosity, so as to inaugurate a new era of security,
integration, good governance, respect for human rights,
and freedom. The session concentrates on the prospects
of the intercultural and interfaith dialogue, the issue of
education, the future of minorities, and the achievement
of a “new ecumenism” among religions and their
various denominations, which is the prerequisite for the
pacification of the area.
