EDITORIAL GUIDELINES
GENERAL GUIDELINES:





Word document format only, single spacing without justification, paragraph indent 1 cm.
The maximum article length is 45,000 characters (including spaces)
Main text : Times New Roman 12 ; footnotes : Times New Roman 10.
Footnotes at the bottom of the page.
Images must be sent separately in high-resolution, jpg or tif format.

 CHAPTERS IN A BOOK:
Author’s surname, first name, title of the work in italics + in + Author’s surname (initial), first
name (in SMALL CAPITALS) + title of the book in italics, place of publication, publisher, volume
number (if the work is made up of several volumes), year of publication, pages.

In the case of several authors: author’s surname, first name, title of the work in italics + in + title of
the book in italics, + a cura di + editor’s name + place of publication, publisher, year of

JOURNAL ARTICLES:

Bibliographies should conform to the same criteria and should be in alphabetical order.

LATER REFERENCES:
In references to a book or article after the first, please use, normally, the author’s surname and an
abbreviated version of the title (two first words, in italics) + cit., + pp.
Example:

SPECIFIC GUIDELINES:

Please use double inverted commas (“ “); for a quotation within a quotation please use
single inverted commas (‘ ’). For quotations in German: „Wort”.

A note reference number should usually be placed before the comma, colon, or full point,
except where the note refers specifically to text within parentheses, in which case the
number cue should be placed after the parenthesis at the end of a clause or sentence.
Example: … parola”)6.

Tables, graphs and images should not exceede 12 cm.

For the subtitles please use only italics (not Bold type).

ID. e EAD. (in SMALL CAPITALS) indicate the author cited in the previous footnote.

In those cases in which the quotation of the same work is to be repeated, with some
variation in any one element, for example with the addition of page numbers –, the
following should be used: Ivi (in italics); ‘ibidem’ (in italics), in abbreviated form (ibid.),
when the citation is repeated immediately after in the same manner.

In running text please use pairs of ‘em’ dashes (—), with a space on either side of the dash,
to enclose parenthetical statements, dialogues etc. An ‘en’ dash (–) is used for date spans
and page ranges.

Please leave hard space after the abbreviation “p.” (ex.: p. 29, not: p.29). Page references to
numbers should take the following form: pp. 158-170 (not: 158-70).

Accents should be retained on capital letters in French and Italian.
