TU/e speakers E.W. (Bert) Meijer

is Distinguished University Professor in the Molecular Sciences, Professor of Organic Chemistry at the Eindhoven University of Technology and scientific director of the Institute for Complex Molecular Systems. After receiving his PhD degree at the University of Groningen, he worked for 10 years in industry (Philips and DSM). In 1991 he was appointed in Eindhoven, while in the meantime he has held part-time positions in Nijmegen and Santa Barbara, CA. Bert Meijer is a member of many editorial advisory boards, including Advanced Materials, Angewandte Chemie, and the Journal of the American Chemical Society. Bert Meijer has received a number of awards, including the Spinoza Award in 2001, the ACS Award for Polymer Chemistry in 2006, the AkzoNobel Science Award 2010, the International Award of the Society of Polymer Science Japan in 2011, the Cope Scholar Award of the ACS in 2012, and the Prelog medal in 2014. He is a member of a number of academies and societies, including the Royal Netherlands Academy of Science and at present member of the Governing Board of the Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research (NWO).

Daniël Lakens

is working as an assistant professor at the Human-Technology Interaction group at Eindhoven University of Technology. He has done research on a range of topics, for example on how people can use concrete information (e.g., spatial distance, brightness differences) to structure their thoughts about more abstract things (e.g., valence, power, time), and when such associations might be embodied, and when not. He is also interested in the meaning of colors, such as the relation between the valence and brightness of affective pictures. In the last few years he has developed an interest in the importance of (preferably pre-registered) replications and improving the way we interpret and design studies as a way to guarantee the robustness of empirical research. In this regard he has written two practical primers on the statistical analysis of data. He recently co-edited a special issue of

Social Psychology

in which a large number of experiments are replicated. He believes science is a collaborative enterprise.

Joos Buijs

is a PhD candidate in the Architecture of Information Systems Group (AIS) of the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e). His area of interest is business process management, in particular "process mining". Within the framework of his PhD research, he is working full-time on the

CoSeLoG

project. This project aims to create a cloud infrastructure for municipalities with services for handling various types of permits, taxes, certificates, and licenses. During the project he worked closely with the municipalities to test the developed techniques and services on real data. Joos started his PhD project in May 2010. He will defend his thesis in October 2014.

Pieter Van Gorp

is investigating and extending the applicability of graph transformation technology to software modeling and health information system challenges since 2002. Since 2008, he is an assistant professor in the School of Industrial Engineering at Eindhoven University of Technology. Previously he held a postdoc position at the University of Antwerp, where he also obtained his PhD degree in Software Engineering (Computer Science). He has published various conference and journal papers (his Google Scholar H-index is 12). To inspire and evaluate his conceptual contributions, he has developed various software prototypes, including SHARE (for executing research prototypes in the cloud) and MyPHRMachines (for securely analysing Personal Health Records in the cloud). Pieter has participated in the organization of national and international research events. For example, he has been the primary organizer of various editions of the Transformation Tools Contest. He is also a reviewer for various international conferences and journals and was the program chair of the Foundations track of the 9th European Conference on Modelling Foundations and Applications.

Chair Maurits van der Graaf

is independent consultant and researcher at Pleiade Management & Consultancy. He carried out a number of studies on research data topics commissioned by Surffoundation, Knowledge Exchange, 3TU.Datacentrum and DANS.
