What is the PARCC?

PARCC stands for the Partnership for Assessment and
Readiness for College and Career

The PARCC is given to students in grades 3-11 in
Language Arts and Mathematics

There are two mandatory parts of the PARCC

 PBA
– Performance Based-Assessment (March 2-27)
 EOY
– End of Year Assessment (April 27-May 22)
The PARCC is based off of the Common Core State
Standards (CCSS)
Wait – What is the Common Core?

The Common Core State Standards (CCSS) are
a set of sequential benchmarks that identify
what a child needs to have learned and be
able to do by the end of each grade.

The ultimate goal is for each student to
graduate ready and able to move on to college
or into a career.
~ Wayne Township Public Schools
Wait – What is the Common Core?

Educators from 45 states worked together to
create a uniform set of expectations for all
students.

The standards were developed by a partnership
with the states, teachers, school administrators,
education experts, parents, and business leaders
from around the country.

Wait – What is the Common Core?
Why the PARCC instead of NJASK?
Current assessments do not:

Assess and identify whether a student is on track for success in
college or the work force

Accurately identify how students compare to students in the state,
country and the rest of the world

Produce timely feedback for educators and parents as a result of
being a computer based assessment

Test skills of critical thinking and problem solving

How does PARCC impact GE?
Individual Student Achievement

Does not affect grade level

Do not consider scores for retention

Will use to target assistance for students
How does PARCC impact GE?
Teacher/Administrator Evaluation
 Teachers & Administrators are evaluated on their
Student Growth Percentile (SGP)
 SGPs monitor how much students grow compared to
other students with similar scores
 For the 2014-2015 school year, 10% of the teacher
evaluation (4th/5th only) will be based on SGPs from
PARCC
 A portion of the Administrator Evaluation score is
based on SGP
How does PARCC impact GE?
School/District Achievement

The 2014-2015 SY assessment will provide baseline
Progress Targets. We will not be compared to last
year’s Progress Targets.

Our SGPs will be compared from last year to this
year (4th/5th only).

We will be compared only to other New Jersey
schools.
