How to install and use dictionaries on the ICARUS Illumina (E653)
The Illumina offers dictionary support for StarDict dictionaries.This is a (free) open source dictionary
format, and therefore hundreds of dictionaries are available. These dictionaries are not installed out of
the box as each user has different needs and interests. It is very easy to install the dictionaries you need
though. This document will guide you through the process.
Note: if you install a large number of dictionaries, the e-reader can respond slower to commands
1. Where to download dictionaries?
You can download a selection of free dictionaries from our website www.icarusreader.com
under the downloads section. An alternative source of free dictionaries under GPL license can be
found here: http://abloz.com/huzheng/stardict-dic/ You can find there not only translation
dictionaries, but for instance also specialized dictionaries for Economics, Mathematics etcetera.
An alternative is to use Google to search for free StarDict dictionaries.
2. Installation instructions
To install the dictionary on your ICARUS Illumina HD, follow these steps:
a) In the Root of the e-reader, create a folder called Dict (capital D, small capital ict)
When viewing the e-reader in the Windows explorer, it will look similar to this:

b) Download the desired StarDict dictionaries. Usually a StarDict dictionary is an archive
that needs to be extracted. Extract the archive and you will find a file folder that
includes several files.
c) Create a folder on your e-reader inside the Dict folder of the e-reader with the name of
that language (e.g. English). Copy all files in the archive to that folder
d) An example of a Dict folder with several dictionaries installed is the following.
e) Once the file folder has been copied to the Dict folder, shutdown your e-reader
f) Start your e-reader. The newly installed dictionary will now work
3. How to use the dictionary while reading a book


Open a book in a format that supports the use of
If you have a word you want to have translated or of which you want to find out the
meaning, do the following:
a) Long-press the word until a pop-up appears
b) In the pop-up, press Dictionary
c) You will now see the translation or meaning in all dictionaries installed (you might
need to scroll down when more than 1 dictionary is installed)

Hoe installeer en gebruik je woordenboeken op de ICARUS Illumina (E653)
De Illumina heeft ingebouwde ondersteuning voor woordenboeken in het StarDict formaat. Dit is een
(gratis) open source formaat voor digitale woordenboeken en er zijn dan ook honderden
woordenboeken in omloop.
Af-fabriek zijn geen woordenboeken geinstalleerd omdat iedere gebruiker behoefte heeft aan andere
woordenboeken. Het is echter heel eenvoudig om woordenboeken toe te voegen aan de Illumina HD.
Let op: de snelheid van de e-reader kan minder worden indien vele woordenboeken worden
geïnstalleerd.
1. Waar kun je woordenboeken downloaden?
Je kunt een selectie van woordenboeken downloaden van onze website www.icarusreader.com
in de downloads sectie. Een alternatieve lokatie met gratis woordenboeken (GPL) is de
volgende: http://abloz.com/huzheng/stardict-dic/ Je vindt hier niet alleen
vertaalwoordenboeken, maar ook specialistische woordenboeken. Een alternatieve bron van
woordenboeken is Google (zoekterm: free StarDict).
2. Installatie instructies
Om een woordenboek te installeren op de Illumina dienen de volgende stappen gevolgd te
worden:

a) Download het woordenboek via www.icarusreader.com (Downloads)
b) Een woordenboek is een ingepakt bestand (ZIP)
c) Maak op de e-reader, in de map Dict een map aan voor de taal die je wenst,
bijvoorbeeld Nederlands als u een Nederlands woordenboek wilt installeren
d) Pak het ZIP bestand uit en kopieer alle bestanden naar de map binnen de map Dict.
Dus bijvoorbeeld alle bestanden uit het ZIP bestand naar de map Dict | Nederlands
e) Sluit de e-reader af en herstart deze
f) Het nieuwe woordenboek is nu beschikbaar!
3. Het woordenboek gebruiken bij het lezen van een ebook


Open een book in een formaat dat de woordenboek functie ondersteunt
Doe het volgende om de betekenis/vertaling van een woord te bekijken:
g) Houd een woord lang ingedrukt tot een pop-up scherm verschijnt
h) Kies vervolgens Woordenboek in het pop-up scherm
i) De e-reader zal alle vertalingen/betekenissen van het woord tonen. Als je
bijvoorbeeld 2 woordenboeken hebt geïnstalleerd (Nederlands en Duits) verschijnen
de Nederlandse en Duitse betekenis van het woord. Als de inhoud van het resultaat
niet op een scherm past, kun je door de lijst met resultaten scrollen
