Population and housing census is a pillar of
national statistical systems
Census provides benchmark for population
count at national and local levels
Main source of information on small
population groups and for small areas
Produces information required for policy
planning, implementation and monitoring
All countries should take census in period
2005-2014 (UN-ECOSOC Resolution 2005/13)
