THE HEART OF A CHILD
Matthew 18:1 At that time the disciples came to
Jesus, saying, "Who then is greatest in the
kingdom of heaven?" 2 Then Jesus called a little
child to Him, set him in the midst of them, 3 and
said, "Assuredly, I say to you, unless you are
converted and become as little children, you will
by no means enter the kingdom of heaven. 4
"Therefore whoever humbles himself as this little
child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.
5 "Whoever receives one little child like this in My
name receives Me. 6 " But whoever causes one of
these little ones who believe in Me to sin, it would
be better for him if a millstone were hung around
his neck, and he were drowned in the depth of
the sea.
Matthew 10:5 These twelve Jesus sent out and
commanded them, saying: "Do not go into the
way of the Gentiles, and do not enter a city of the
Samaritans. 6 "But go rather to the lost sheep of
the house of Israel. 7 "And as you go, preach,
saying, 'The kingdom of heaven is at hand.'
Mark 9:33 Then He came to Capernaum. And
when He was in the house He asked them, "What
was it you disputed among yourselves on the
road?" 34 But they kept silent, for on the road
they had disputed among themselves who would
be the greatest.
Mark 10:35 Then James and John, the sons of
Zebedee, came to Him, saying, "Teacher, we want
You to do for us whatever we ask." 36 And He
said to them, "What do you want Me to do for
you?" 37 They said to Him, "Grant us that we
may sit, one on Your right hand and the other on
Your left, in Your glory."
Mark 10:38 But Jesus said to them, "You do not
know what you ask. Are you able to drink the cup
that I drink, and be baptized with the baptism
that I am baptized with?" 39 They said to Him,
"We are able." So Jesus said to them, "You will
indeed drink the cup that I drink, and with the
baptism I am baptized with you will be baptized;
40 "but to sit on My right hand and on My left is
not Mine to give, but it is for those for whom it is
prepared." 41 And when the ten heard it, they
began to be greatly displeased with James and
John.
42 But Jesus called them to Himself and said to
them, "You know that those who are considered
rulers over the Gentiles lord it over them, and
their great ones exercise authority over them. 43
"Yet it shall not be so among you; but whoever
desires to become great among you shall be your
servant. 44 "And whoever of you desires to be
first shall be slave of all. 45 "For even the Son of
Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and
to give His life a ransom for many."
2 Then Jesus called a little child to Him, set him in
the midst of them, 3 and said, "Assuredly, I say
to you, unless you are converted and become as
little children, you will by no means enter the
kingdom of heaven. 4 "Therefore whoever
humbles himself as this little child is the greatest
in the kingdom of heaven.
1 Corinthians 13:11 When I was a child, I spoke
as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a
child; but when I became a man, I put away
childish things.
1 Corinthians 14:20 Brethren, do not be children
in understanding; however, in malice be babes,
but in understanding be mature.
Hebrews 5:12 For though by this time you ought
to be teachers, you need someone to teach you
again the first principles of the oracles of God;
and you have come to need milk and not solid
food. 13 For everyone who partakes only of milk
is unskilled in the word of righteousness, for he is
a babe. 14 But solid food belongs to those who
are of full age, that is, those who by reason of use
have their senses exercised to discern both good
and evil.
1 Kings 21:4 So Ahab went into his house sullen
and displeased because of the word which
Naboth the Jezreelite had spoken to him; for he
had said, "I will not give you the inheritance of
my fathers." And he lay down on his bed, and
turned away his face, and would eat no food.
Romans 12:1 I beseech you therefore, brethren,
by the mercies of God, that you present your
bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God,
which is your reasonable service. 2 And do not be
conformed to this world, but be transformed by
the renewing of your mind, that you may prove
what is that good and acceptable and perfect will
of God.
2 Corinthians 10:5 bringing every thought into
captivity to the obedience of Christ,
Psalm 51:6 Behold, You desire truth in the inward
parts, And in the hidden part You will make me to
know wisdom. 7 Purge me with hyssop, and I
shall be clean; Wash me, and I shall be whiter
than snow. 8 Make me hear joy and gladness,
That the bones You have broken may rejoice. 9
Hide Your face from my sins, And blot out all my
iniquities. 10 Create in me a clean heart, O God,
And renew a steadfast spirit within me.
Psalm 119:1 Blessed are the undefiled in the way,
Who walk in the law of the LORD! 2 Blessed are
those who keep His testimonies, Who seek Him
with the whole heart! 3 They also do no iniquity;
They walk in His ways. 4 You have commanded
us To keep Your precepts diligently. 5 Oh, that
my ways were directed To keep Your statutes! 6
Then I would not be ashamed, When I look into
all Your commandments. 7 I will praise You with
uprightness of heart, When I learn Your righteous
judgments. 8 I will keep Your statutes; Oh, do
not forsake me utterly!
9 How can a young man cleanse his way? By
taking heed according to Your word. 10 With my
whole heart I have sought You; Oh, let me not
wander from Your commandments! 11 Your word
I have hidden in my heart, That I might not sin
against You!
Psalm 101:3 I will set nothing wicked before my
eyes; I hate the work of those who fall away; It
shall not cling to me. 4 A perverse heart shall
depart from me; I will not know wickedness.
John 13:34 "A new commandment I give to you,
that you love one another; as I have loved you,
that you also love one another. 35 "By this all
will know that you are My disciples, if you have
love for one another."
1 Peter 1:22 Since you have purified your souls in
obeying the truth through the Spirit in sincere
love of the brethren, love one another fervently
with a pure heart,
1 Corinthians 13:1 Though I speak with the
tongues of men and of angels, but have not love,
I have become sounding brass or a clanging
cymbal. 2 And though I have the gift of
prophecy, and understand all mysteries and all
knowledge, and though I have all faith, so that I
could remove mountains, but have not love, I am
nothing. 3 And though I bestow all my goods to
feed the poor, and though I give my body to be
burned, but have not love, it profits me nothing.
1 John 4:19 We love Him because He first loved
us.
1 Thessalonians 4:9 But concerning brotherly love
you have no need that I should write to you, for
you yourselves are taught by God to love one
another; 10 and indeed you do so toward all the
brethren who are in all Macedonia. But we urge
you, brethren, that you increase more and more;
Romans 5:6 For when we were still without
strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly.
7 For scarcely for a righteous man will one die;
yet perhaps for a good man someone would even
dare to die. 8 But God demonstrates His own love
toward us, in that while we were still sinners,
Christ died for us.
Jeremiah 10:23 O LORD, I know the way of man
is not in himself; It is not in man who walks to
direct his own steps.
Romans 8:38 For I am persuaded that neither
death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor
powers, nor things present nor things to come,
39 nor height nor depth, nor any other created
thing, shall be able to separate us from the love
of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Romans 8:28 And we know that all things work
together for good to those who love God, to those
who are the called according to His purpose.
Luke 17:3 "Take heed to yourselves. If your
brother sins against you, rebuke him; and if he
repents, forgive him. 4 "And if he sins against
you seven times in a day, and seven times in a
day returns to you, saying, 'I repent,' you shall
forgive him."
Matthew 6:14 "For if you forgive men their
trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive
you. 15 "But if you do not forgive men their
trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your
trespasses.
James 4:6 …Therefore He says: "God resists the
proud, But gives grace to the humble."
Proverbs 29:23 A man's pride will bring him low,
But the humble in spirit will retain honor.
Romans 12:3 For I say, through the grace given
to me, to everyone who is among you, not to
think of himself more highly than he ought to
think, but to think soberly, as God has dealt to
each one a measure of faith.
1. We must train ourselves to become innocent with a
pure heart. We do that though prayer, by putting God’s
Word in our heart, and by staying away from those
things that can corrupt us.
2. We must learn to love like a child does. If we do not
know how, we can learn how through prayer and by
learning from God’s example.
3. We must learn to be dependent on God and to trust in
His timing and judgments.
4. We must learn to believe every Word that God has told
us and be obedient to that Word.
5. We must learn to be forgiving.
6. We must learn to be humble and never allow pride or
hunger for power to make us inflate our egos.
