It includes several cities. Volcanoes • Destroy vegetation with flowing lava and ash falling from sky • All things die under lava; less area to grow plants • Lava turns into rock creating new land and rocks Hurricanes • Erosion of land( loss of land) • Strong winds destroy plants and vegetation • Too much water can cause soil to be useless for growing crops Tornadoes • Strong winds cause damage to trees and other plants • Less oxygen contributes to global warming • The area has less people because homes are destroyed. Scale • Scale is the section of the map that shows how much smaller the map is compared to the real area it represents. Directions • Directions tell which way to go. Compass Rose • A compass rose is a symbol on a map which indicates the directions for a map. Cardinal Directions • • • • North South East West Equator • The equator is a zero degree line of latitude that separates the Northern hemisphere from the Southern Hemisphere. Prime Meridian • The prime meridian is the zero degree line of longitude that separates the eastern and western hemisphere. Globe • A model of the earth Map • A flat display of land Homework • 1.
