Aims
Set
up the effect of the origins on the life
conditions and social trajectories controlling for
other socio-demographic characteristics

Definition of an immigrant
(used in France)
A
person who is born abroad and who was not
French at birth. The latest point is important in
France referring to the large number of migrants
coming from former colonies.
6.6 million born abroad ; among them 5 millions
are immigrants using the French definition.

Concerning the measure of discrimination, the
analysis will follow two approaches; first one is
to evaluate discrimination according to the
declaration of the respondents; the other one is
to estimate the gap between the immigrants’
situation and the rest of the population
controlling for other characteristics.
Legal environment
Statistical council: judges the usefulness of the project
Label committee. Judges the statistical quality of the
survey (including sampling)
National Commission “Informatique” and Freedom:
allows or not the survey or some questions regarding to
the rights of the person
And, that was unexpected, the Constitutional Council.
They ruled on the fact whether it right or not to ask
questions on religion, origin and which ones.
