1 Using Register Data to Monitor the Immigration and Emigration of Immigrants Vebjørn Aalandslid [email protected] Statistics Norway 1 Data: The CPR as a main source for population and social statistics in Norway • Central Register of Population (CPR) established in 1964 – based on the Population Census of 1960 + local registers already established in 1946 • • Established for administrative - not statistical – purposes • All national administrative registers that are based on individuals use the pin-code. • A comprehensive register society. “All” governmental agencies and a lot of private firms have limited access to these register data - more than 1500 in total. • Cooperation between governmental agencies The pin-code essential in linking all the various registers based on this system 2 Use of data on individuals in Statistics Norway Labour market Education Crime Income Population Child welfare National insurance Surveys Economic assistance + a lot more 3 The CPR population The variable ‘registration status’ by 01.01.2006 1.
