Submission Slide 4 Sean Middleton, Philips Semiconductors August, 2000 doc.: IEEE 802.15-<doc#> LRSG 5 Criteria - Broad Market Potential • Wide range of examples applications and devices: – Home Automation, Meter Reading, Medical Monitoring, Precision Agriculture and Environmental Networks, Industrial Controls, and Access/Authorization. – Smart Tags & Badges, Auto Location ID’s, Stick-on and Security Sensors, Interactive Toys, Human Interface Devices (HIDs), Portable bar code readers, and Remote controls. • Expected that with an effective wireless standard, geared to this class of applications, the market potential is huge. • Devices need to run on batteries lasting multiple months to multiple years. • 20 individuals from 12 companies and two universities participated in drafting this PAR. Submission Slide 5 Sean Middleton, Philips Semiconductors August, 2000 doc.: IEEE 802.15-<doc#> LRSG 5C - Uniqueness • Permit raw data rate of 200 Kbps or much slower in this class of WPAN essential for achieving the extremely low power consumption requirements. • Provides balanced cost for the LRSG WPAN class of devices. • Addresses the reduced complexity requirements for the LRSG WPAN class of devices. • Optimizes for low cost and low power consumption in a small form factor. • Addresses location tracking capabilities which this WPAN class of devices may support.
