Objectives and Scope of EFICP
• EFICP is a follow-up of the European Council Regulation no 1615/89
concerning the creation of a European Forestry Information and
Communication System (EFICS);
• Aimed at using existing results on forest information and
communication projects (e.g. EFIS, NEFIS).
• Main goal for EFICP is to become the European information and
communication platform in the forest sector, providing facilities for
the search, online access and analysis of all kinds of forest-related
information;
• A major technical focus on interoperability, i.e. to enable EFICP
to exchange data with a wide range of external systems and
services, adopting INSPIRE guidelines and rules.

EFICP Preparatory Action
• Tender launched in 2005 by JRC for the development of
EFICP
• Award of the contract to a consortium lead by EDISOFT
signed December 2005.
• Final report and final version of EFICP – December 2007
• Final implementation – after review - March 2008
• Continous review and improvement the system during
the following two years of guarantee.

Summary of EFICP
• EFICP is an INSPIRE compliant system, that is, EFICP follows the INSPIRE
metadata specifications and the INSPIRE guidelines for system
interoperability.
• EFICP provides access to all the systems declared in the EFICP metadata
catalogue and all the open interoperable systems accessible through
internet.
• EFICP provides access to EU systems and data on forest resources
(currently the NFI virtual system and EFDAC), forest fires (EFFIS), and
forest condition (Forest Focus database).
• In all cases, the spatial data available through EFICP are aggregated data
derived from the EU databases. No point or plot data are or will be
available from EFICP.
• EFICP permits the access to documents, statistical data and spatial data
through multiple inter-system protocols, and allows the analysis of these
data and the preparation of reports.
• EFICP will be integrated in the EFDAC and will complement the system
regarding the access to remote databases.
