Worship has a beginning and an end.
Genesis 22:5 And Abraham said to his young men,
"Stay here with the donkey; the lad and I will go
yonder and worship, and we will come back to
you.“
Acts 24:11 "because you may ascertain that it is
no more than twelve days since I went up to
Jerusalem to worship.
Hebrews 10:24 And let us consider one another in
order to stir up love and good works, 25 not
forsaking the assembling of ourselves together,
as is the manner of some, but exhorting one
another, and so much the more as you see the
Day approaching.
1 Corinthians 16:1 Now concerning the collection
for the saints, as I have given orders to the
churches of Galatia, so you must do also: 2 On
the first day of the week let each one of you lay
something aside, storing up as he may prosper,
that there be no collections when I come.
Acts 20:6 But we sailed away from Philippi after
the Days of Unleavened Bread, and in five days
joined them at Troas, where we stayed seven
days. 7 Now on the first day of the week, when
the disciples came together to break bread, Paul,
ready to depart the next day, spoke to them and
continued his message until midnight.
Acts 20:16 Paul was in a hurry.
Giving our money and partaking of the Lord’s
Supper happens on the first day of the week.
The birth of the church in Acts 2 started on the
first day of the week.
All of life is NOT worship to God.
There are 6 different Greek words that are
translated as worship in our Bible.
Outside of specific worship to God we must still
serve God in our everyday life.
Romans 12:1 I beseech you therefore, brethren,
by the mercies of God, that you present your
bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God,
which is your reasonable service. 2 And do not be
conformed to this world, but be transformed by
the renewing of your mind, that you may prove
what is that good and acceptable and perfect will
of God.
There is a difference between specific worship to
God and showing reverence or service to God.
Psalm 122:1 A Song of Ascents. Of David. I was
glad when they said to me, "Let us go into the
house of the LORD." 2 Our feet have been
standing Within your gates, O Jerusalem! 3
Jerusalem is built As a city that is compact
together, 4 Where the tribes go up, The tribes of
the LORD, To the Testimony of Israel, To give
thanks to the name of the LORD. 5 For thrones
are set there for judgment, The thrones of the
house of David. 6 Pray for the peace of
Jerusalem: "May they prosper who love you. 7
Peace be within your walls, Prosperity within your
palaces." 8 For the sake of my brethren and
companions, I will now say, "Peace be within
you." 9 Because of the house of the LORD our
God I will seek your good.
• He was full of joy when it was time to worship
• They were ready and waiting for worship
• His focus was on worshiping God
We are not the focal point of worship God is.
How are we suppose to worship?
John 4:19 The woman said to Him, "Sir, I perceive
that You are a prophet. 20 "Our fathers
worshiped on this mountain, and you Jews say
that in Jerusalem is the pl ace where one ought to
worship." 21 Jesus said to her, "Woman, believe
Me, the hour is coming when you will neither on
this mountain, nor in Jerusalem, worship the
Father. 22 "You worship what you do not know;
we know what we worship, for salvation is of
the Jews. 23 "But the hour is coming, and now
is, when the true worshipers will worship the
Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is
seeking such to worship Him. 24 "God is Spirit,
and those who worship Him must worship in
spirit and truth."
We MUST worship God IN SPIRIT and IN TRUTH
John 17:17 "Sanctify them by Your truth. Your
word is truth.
Worship to God must come from a sincere heart
and be regulated by the Word of God.
2 Timothy 3:16 All Scripture is given by
inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine,
for reproof, for correction, for instruction in
righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be
complete, thoroughly equipped for every good
work.
Colossians 3:17 And whatever you do in word or
deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving
thanks to God the Father through Him.
1 Corinthians 14:33 For God is not the author of
confusion but of peace, as in all the churches of
the saints.
VAIN WORSHIP
Mark 7:6 He answered and said to them, "Well
did Isaiah prophesy of you hypocrites, as it is
written: 'This people honors Me with their lips,
But their heart is far from Me. 7 And in vain they
worship Me, Teaching as doctrines the
commandments of men.' 8 "For laying aside the
commandment of God, you hold the tradition of
men -- the washing of pitchers and cups, and
many other such things you do."
9 He said to them, "All too well you reject the
commandment of God, that you may keep your
tradition. 10 "For Moses said, 'Honor your father
and your mother'; and, 'He who curses father or
mother, let him be put to death.' 11 "But you say,
'If a man says to his father or mother, "Whatever
profit you might have received from me is
Corban" -- ' (that is, a gift to God), 12 "then you
no longer let him do anything for his father or his
mother, 13 "making the word of God of no effect
through your tradition which you have handed
down. And many such things you do."
Vain worship is not acceptable to God.
Colossians 2:18 Let no one cheat you of your reward,
taking delight in false humility and worship of angels,
intruding into those things which he has not seen,
vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind, 19 and not
holding fast to the Head, from whom all the body,
nourished and knit together by joints and ligaments,
grows with the increase that is from God. 20
Therefore, if you died with Christ from the basic
principles of the world, why, as though living in the
world, do you subject yourselves to regulations -- 21
"Do not touch, do not taste, do not handle," 22 which
all concern things which perish with the using -according to the commandments and doctrines of
men? 23 These things indeed have an appearance of
wisdom in self-imposed religion, false humility, and
neglect of the body, but are of no value against the
indulgence of the flesh.
Do not be deceived by man made doctrines or
take part in them or you will lose your reward of
heaven.
Acts 17:22 Men of Athens, I perceive that in all
things you are very religious; 23 "for as I was
passing through and considering the objects of
your worship, I even found an altar with this
inscription: TO THE UNKNOWN GOD. Therefore,
the One whom you worship without knowing,
Him I proclaim to you:
Romans 10:1 Brethren, my heart's desire and
prayer to God for Israel is that they may be
saved. 2 For I bear them witness that they have
a zeal for God, but not according to knowledge. 3
For they being ignorant of God's righteousness,
and seeking to establish their own righteousness,
have not submitted to the righteousness of God.
Acts 17:30 "Truly, these times of ignorance God
overlooked, but now commands all men
everywhere to repent,
Mark 15:19 Then they struck Him on the head
with a reed and spat on Him; and bowing the
knee, they worshiped Him. 20 And when they
had mocked Him, they took the purple off Him,
put His own clothes on Him, and led Him out to
crucify Him.
2 Thessalonians 1:7 when the Lord Jesus is
revealed from heaven with His mighty angels, 8
in flaming fire taking vengeance on those who do
not know God, and on those who do not obey the
gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9 These shall be
punished with everlasting destruction from the
presence of the Lord and from the glory of His
power,
Worshiping God in spirit
and truth = heaven
Vain worship to God = hell
