About E-WarDD





Size of the unit: 1500 sq.ft.
Number of employees: 10
Location: Industrial area of Bommanahali
Modern equipment
Installed Capacity – 2 tonnes per day
Objectives
 To work within the framework of the law to ensure
environmentally safe reuse and recycling of e-Waste
 Provide opportunities for safe recycling of e-Waste to
households and small establishments
 Act as a source of inspiration towards other informal
sector companies
Roots
 Gowri Palya is the heart of e-Waste recycling in
Bangalore with more than 50 units located there
 Dismantlers and precious metal recovery done in tiny
units interspersed between shops and households
 10 dismantlers came together to form E-WaRDD
Collaboration
German Technical Corporation
(GTZ)
Swiss Federal Laboratories for
Materials Testing and Research
(EMPA)
 Two years training in testing and upgrading e-waste,
and identifying and handling hazardous substances
 Outlining of a business plan
Motivation
 Realized that there was no future for the informal
sector unless we upgrade and work like the formal
sector
 Wanted to demonstrate to the rest of the sector that it
was possible to get official recognition
‘Pasha could be the first person to convert from the
informal recycling sector to the formal sector in India,
and perhaps in the world, too.’
Times of India, 5 March 2009
