The 1st reason is to grow and develop spiritually
Heb 5:12 For though by this time you ought to be
teachers, you need someone to teach you again
the first principles of the oracles of God; and you
have come to need milk and not solid food.
13 For everyone who partakes only of milk is
unskilled in the word of righteousness, for he is a
babe. 14 But solid food belongs to those who are
of full age, that is, those who by reason of use
have their senses exercised to discern both good
and evil.
Our spiritual growth depends on our spiritual
diet.
The 2nd reason is to help the church function
properly
Eph 4:15 speaking the truth in love, may grow
up in all things into Him who is the head -Christ -- 16 from whom the whole body, joined
and knit together by what every joint supplies,
according to the effective working by which
every part does its share, causes growth of the
body for the edifying of itself in love.
1Cor. 12:12-27 Everyone is important
24 But God composed the body, having given
greater honor to that part which lacks it, 25
that there should be no schism in the body,
but that the members should have the same
care for one another. 26 And if one member
suffers, all the members suffer with it; or if
one member is honored, all the members
rejoice with it.
Do you want to see the church grow?
Do you want to see the weak encouraged?
Do you want to see souls saved?
The third reason is to be a good example and
influence.
1 Timothy 4:12 Let no one despise your youth, but
be an example to the believers in word, in conduct,
in love, in spirit, in faith, in purity
Titus 2:7 in all things showing yourself to be a
pattern of good works; in doctrine showing
integrity, reverence, incorruptibility, 8 sound speech
that cannot be condemned, that one who is an
opponent may be ashamed, having nothing evil to
say of you.
Mat 5:14 "You are the light of the world. A city that
is set on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 "Nor do they
light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a
lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the
house. 16 "Let your light so shine before men, that
they may see your good works and glorify your
Father in heaven.
What kind of example are you, good or bad?
The fourth reason is to be ready, watching and
waiting.
Matthew 25:13 "Watch therefore, for you know
neither the day nor the hour in which the Son of
Man is coming.
8 But let us who are of the day be sober, putting
on the breastplate of faith and love, and as a
helmet the hope of salvation.
Can we truly say that we are ready, watching,
and waiting for the Lord when we willfully miss
many opportunities to be with his disciples?
The 5th reason is to have a good conscience.
Hebrews 9:14 how much more shall the blood
of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit
offered Himself without spot to God, cleanse
your conscience from dead works to serve the
living God?
1 Peter 3:21 There is also an antitype which
now saves us -- baptism (not the removal of
the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good
conscience toward God), through the
resurrection of Jesus Christ,
Acts 24:16 I myself always strive to have a
conscience without offense toward God and
men.
5 Now the purpose of the commandment is
love from a pure heart, from a good
conscience, and from sincere faith
18 This charge I commit to you, son Timothy,
according to the prophecies previously made
concerning you, that by them you may wage
the good warfare, 19 having faith and a good
conscience, which some having rejected,
concerning the faith have suffered shipwreck.
Heb 13:18 Pray for us; for we are confident that
we have a good conscience, in all things desiring
to live honorably.
If we make it a habit not to attend all the
services of the church, can we really say we
have a good conscience, in all things desiring to
live honorably?
The sixth reason is to attend every service is to
fulfill the commands of God.
Romans 14:19 Therefore let us pursue the
things which make for peace and the things by
which one may edify another.
Matthew 6:33 "But seek first the kingdom of
God and His righteousness, and all these
things shall be added to you.
Are your priorities right?
Matthew 10:37 "He who loves father or
mother more than Me is not worthy of Me. And
he who loves son or daughter more than Me is
not worthy of Me. 38 "And he who does not
take his cross and follow after Me is not
worthy of Me.
Heb 10:24 And let us consider one another in order
to stir up love and good works, 25 not forsaking
the assembling of ourselves together, as is the
manner of some, but exhorting one another, and
so much the more as you see the Day approaching.
26 For if we sin willfully after we have received the
knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a
sacrifice for sins,
James 4:17 Therefore, to him who knows to do
good and does not do it, to him it is sin.
Hebrews 13:17 Obey those who rule over you, and
be submissive, for they watch out for your souls,
as those who must give account. Let them do so
with joy and not with grief, for that would be
unprofitable for you.
