Alpha Eta Mu Beta @Boston University Information Session September 24, 2014 About the Organization ● National Biomedical Engineering Honor Society ● Established in 1979 ● Recognizes excellence in the BME field and brings together individuals who share a drive and passion for BME Boston University Chapter ● Become part of a network of excellence in BME ● Social, Networking, Mentorship, and Service events throughout the year ○ team up with organizations within ENG and beyond ● Officers: Courtney Ellenson, President Shreya Deshmukh, Vice President Nelson Boland, Secretary Keith George, Treasurer 2014-2015 Events AEMB Social Event ● New juniors and seniors apply NOW to become a part of AEMB ● As we get back into the school year, seniors will be going to a sushi lunch BMES Annual Meeting San Antonio, TX ● Present research, attend career fairs, network with industry professionals and grad schools ● AEMB benefits: ○ AEMB Annual Meeting and Dinner (more networking) ○ AEMB travel award: $500 ○ Lectures sponsored by AEMB ● Next year- Tampa, FL AEMB Induction Ceremony ● Speaker: Dr. Catherine Klapperich ○ Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering (UC Berkeley), and S.M. in Engineering Sciences (Harvard University) ○ On the global impact of her research in engineering medical devices for use in low resource settings and at the point of care. ● Network with current/new AEMB members and BME faculty ● Delicious food; you can bring a guest ☺ ● Become a lifetime member! Finals study break A social event to bring some holiday spirit into busy finals season: ○ Ice skating? ○ Hot chocolate and baking? ○ Game night? ○ Potluck? ○ We want your ideas! Spring 2014 Events ● “Life After Undergrad” panel ○ recently graduated BMEs in both industry and grad school will give their advice and knowledge about the options that lie ahead ● Volunteer event ● More socials ● Any suggestions members have are welcomed and encouraged! How Can You Join? ● Pick up an application tonight or print one from the BU AEMB blog site ● Fill out the application ● $50 membership fee in cash ○ Covers National Dues, Chapter Dues (initiation dinner and other events), AEMB certification, pin, and graduation cord ● Due: Monday, October 6th by 5pm ○ ○ There will be a collection envelope for applications and membership fees at the front desk of ERB 403 Firm deadline since we need to order certificates/pins and get a headcount for Induction
