Chilean Ministry of Education selected 66 schools considered as in critical conditions. These schools are located in the center region of Chile and have been ranked the lowest in the national standardized test. TEST SIMCE Sistema de Medición de la Calidad de la Educación “System for measuring the quality of Education” TESTS RESULTS National average scores: 251 in Language and 247 in Math Highest scores reach 337 and 347 respectively. Our schools score: Language: 207 Math: 208 Children and their families Extreme poverty environments Single parent families Social and cultural deprivation Parents with low levels of schooling Parents not involved in the education of their children School Context Average of 40 students per class. Inappropriate classrooms and facilities. Lack of materials, for students and teachers. Very few books, with poor quality and limited assortment. Teachers Mistrustful of new and external intervention. Reluctant to change. Use of traditional teaching strategies. Have few expectations on what their students can achieve. Think many of them have learning disabilities. Culture of teaching behind closed doors.
