What are SAMs?
• A Self-assessment Module (SAM) is a CME activity
that incorporates a scored post-test to measure the
knowledge and skill of the pathologist in the content
provided during the activity.
• SAMs are part of Part II: Life-Long Learning and Self
Assessment: ABP’s MOC Requirements.
For more information on MOC Requirements, visit
abpath.org.

What are CAP SAMs?
• Meet the ABP requirements for CME SAM activities.
• Provide customized feedback to a pathologist regarding
knowledge and skill in a subject matter area.
• More than a “memory test” – ask you to apply your new
knowledge to cases and scenarios.
• Developed and peer reviewed by subject matter
experts.
• Are intended to assist Pathologists in preparing for MOC
Part 3 Cognitive Exams.

in the following programs:
• Journal-based SAMs (Archives Applied)
• Select CAP’10 courses (online post-test following live event)

Town Hall Panelists’ Comments
• “Good questions. Good information.”
• “Virtual Board exams in the future? Quite possibly. Biggest
obstacle is data files for virtual slides.”
• “What are MOC requirements and how it will work?” (see
abpath.org for MOC info)
• “Should I drop my AP/CP certification if I certify in a
subspecialty?” (not in your first 10 years)
• “Can we get old RISE questions to study from?” (Sorry, NO,
but there is consideration for putting together a Q&A.)
