Northern Caribbean University Mandeville, Manchester; Jamaica College of Business and Hospitality Management Conference March 10-11, 2013 “A Look at Global Institutional Perspectives and Situations in Building Human Capacity (BHC): Trends & Issues Theodore Brown Sr., PhD Associate Professor of Management Oakwood university Huntsville, Alabama USA Introduction Over the past two decades, globalization has propelled the integration process of businesses, institutions, governments and organizations to seek expansion and collaboration through partnerships and multi-national corporations resulting in a heightened emergence of building human capacity (BHC) through a cross-cultural employee workforce (Sarkar, 2010). (p. 2) Introduction Building Human Capacity (BHC) also requires that businesses, institutions and organizations go beyond the traditional models of education and training to a more focused approach on training individuals in the actual work environment in real world situations (Sharma and Suri, 2012). (p. 2) Trends • 1. Hiring People with work experience and skilled labor • 2. Increasing skilled personal • 3. Monitoring salaries of new business school graduates hired in company • 4. Increasing women hires • 5. Increase Pre-placement offers (PP0’s) hiring of interns • 6. HR discovering new trends in Leadership & People Management 7. HR participating in benchmarking and networking activities with other HR practitioners 8. HR finding solutions to better manage workplace issues 9. Increase focus on knowledge building and management 10. Continue and increase Innovation 11. Improving performance management practices 12. Rapid technological changes (p. 3) Issues • 1.
