THE POWER OF AN INVITATION
John 1:35 Again, the next day, John stood with two of his
disciples. 36 And looking at Jesus as He walked, he said,
"Behold the Lamb of God!" 37 The two disciples heard
him speak, and they followed Jesus. 38 Then Jesus
turned, and seeing them following, said to them, "What
do you seek?" They said to Him, "Rabbi" (which is to say,
when translated, Teacher), "where are You staying?" 39
He said to them, "Come and see." They came and saw
where He was staying, and remained with Him that day
(now it was about the tenth hour). 40 One of the two
who heard John speak, and followed Him, was Andrew,
Simon Peter's brother. 41 He first found his own brother
Simon, and said to him, "We have found the Messiah"
(which is translated, the Christ). 42 And he brought him
to Jesus. Now when Jesus looked at him, He said, "You
are Simon the son of Jonah. You shall be called Cephas"
(which is translated, A Stone).
John 1:43 The following day Jesus wanted to go to
Galilee, and He found Philip and said to him, "Follow Me."
44 Now Philip was from Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and
Peter. 45 Philip found Nathanael and said to him, "We
have found Him of whom Moses in the law, and also the
prophets, wrote -- Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph."
46 And Nathanael said to him, "Can anything good come
out of Nazareth?" Philip said to him, "Come and see." 47
Jesus saw Nathanael coming toward Him, and said of him,
"Behold, an Israelite indeed, in whom is no deceit!" 48
Nathanael said to Him, "How do You know me?" Jesus
answered and said to him, "Before Philip called you, when
you were under the fig tree, I saw you." 49 Nathanael
answered and said to Him, "Rabbi, You are the Son of
God! You are the King of Israel!" 50 Jesus answered and
said to him, "Because I said to you, 'I saw you under the
fig tree,' do you believe? You will see greater things than
these."
John 4:7 A woman of Samaria came to draw
water. Jesus said to her, "Give Me a drink." 8 For
His disciples had gone away into the city to buy
food. 9 Then the woman of Samaria said to Him,
"How is it that You, being a Jew, ask a drink from
me, a Samaritan woman?" For Jews have no
dealings with Samaritans.
John 4:10 Jesus answered and said to her, "If you knew
the gift of God, and who it is who says to you, 'Give Me a
drink,' you would have asked Him, and He would have
given you living water." 11 The woman said to Him, "Sir,
You have nothing to draw with, and the well is deep.
Where then do You get that living water? 12 "Are You
greater than our father Jacob, who gave us the well, and
drank from it himself, as well as his sons and his
livestock?" 13 Jesus answered and said to her, "Whoever
drinks of this water will thirst again, 14 "but whoever
drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst.
But the water that I shall give him will become in him a
fountain of water springing up into everlasting life." 15
The woman said to Him, "Sir, give me this water, that I
may not thirst, nor come here to draw." 16 Jesus said to
her, "Go, call your husband, and come here."
17 The woman answered and said, "I have no husband."
Jesus said to her, "You have well said, 'I have no
husband,' 18 "for you have had five husbands, and the
one whom you now have is not your husband; in that you
spoke truly." 19 The woman said to Him, "Sir, I perceive
that You are a prophet. 20 "Our fathers worshiped on this
mountain, and you Jews say that in Jerusalem is the place
where one ought to worship." 21 Jesus said to her,
"Woman, believe Me, the hour is coming when you will
neither on this mountain, nor in Jerusalem, worship the
Father. 22 "You worship what you do not know; we know
what we worship, for salvation is of the Jews. 23 "But the
hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will
worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is
seeking such to worship Him.
24 "God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must
worship in spirit and truth." 25 The woman said to Him,
"I know that Messiah is coming" (who is called Christ).
"When He comes, He will tell us all things." 26 Jesus said
to her, "I who speak to you am He." 27 And at this point
His disciples came, and they marveled that He talked with
a woman; yet no one said, "What do You seek?" or, "Why
are You talking with her?" 28 The woman then left her
waterpot, went her way into the city, and said to the men,
29 "Come, see a Man who told me all things that I ever
did. Could this be the Christ?" 30 Then they went out of
the city and came to Him.
John 4:39 And many of the Samaritans of that
city believed in Him because of the word of the
woman who testified, "He told me all that I ever
did." 40 So when the Samaritans had come to
Him, they urged Him to stay with them; and He
stayed there two days.
Joshua 24:15 "And if it seems evil to you to serve
the LORD, choose for yourselves this day whom
you will serve, whether the gods which your
fathers served that were on the other side of the
River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land
you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will
serve the LORD."

gave a great supper and invited many, 17 "and
sent his servant at supper time to say to those
who were invited, 'Come, for all things are now
ready.' 18 "But they all with one accord began to
make excuses. The first said to him, 'I have
bought a piece of ground, and I must go and see
it. I ask you to have me excused.' 19 "And
another said, 'I have bought five yoke of oxen,
and I am going to test them. I ask you to have me
excused.' 20 "Still another said, 'I have married a
wife, and therefore I cannot come.'
21 "So that servant came and reported these
things to his master. Then the master of the
house, being angry, said to his servant, 'Go out
quickly into the streets and lanes of the city, and
bring in here the poor and the maimed and the
lame and the blind.' 22 "And the servant said,
'Master, it is done as you commanded, and still
there is room.' 23 "Then the master said to the
servant, 'Go out into the highways and hedges,
and compel them to come in, that my house may
be filled. 24 'For I say to you that none of those
men who were invited shall taste my supper.' "
Invite people to worship with us.
1 Thessalonians 2:3 For our exhortation did not come
from error or uncleanness, nor was it in deceit. 4 But as
we have been approved by God to be entrusted with the
gospel, even so we speak, not as pleasing men, but God
who tests our hearts. 5 For neither at any time did we use
flattering words, as you know, nor a cloak for
covetousness -- God is witness. 6 Nor did we seek glory
from men, either from you or from others, when we might
have made demands as apostles of Christ. 7 But we were
gentle among you, just as a nursing mother cherishes her
own children. 8 So, affectionately longing for you, we
were well pleased to impart to you not only the gospel of
God, but also our own lives, because you had become dear
to us.
Invite people into your homes and to events.
Matthew 11:28 "Come to Me, all you who labor
and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29
"Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I
am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find
rest for your souls. 30 "For My yoke is easy and
My burden is light."
