Learning outcomes

At the end of this session you will be able to:

• Identify and reflect upon the impact of RDM support on the organisation of the Library Apr-20 Learning material produced by RDMRose http://www.sheffield.ac.uk/is/research/projects/rdmrose

Activity 6.5 Reflection on Library organisation

Consider the list of roles Libraries might play in RDM. The list was first introduced in session 1.3: – Leading on local (institutional) data policy – Bringing data into undergraduate research-based learning, promoting data information literacy – Teaching data literacy to postgraduate students – Developing researcher data awareness – Providing researcher data advice, e.g. on writing Data Management plans or advice on RDM within a project – Explaining the impact of sharing data, and how to cite data – Signposting who in the institution should be consulted in relation to a particular question – Auditing to identify data sets for archiving or RDM needs – Developing and managing access to data collections – Documenting what datasets an institution has – Developing local data curation capacity – Promoting data reuse by making known what is available Apr-20 Learning material produced by RDMRose http://www.sheffield.ac.uk/is/research/projects/rdmrose

Activity 6.5 Reflection on Library organisation

• • • Which of these roles (if any) require a fundamental change in how the Library is organised, and what shape could these changes take? Consider the creation of a team dedicated to research support. Which other units in the University should it be linked to, and how could these links be managed on a procedural level?

Consider the creation of embedded roles within departments or within research teams. How would embedded staff be integrated into the Library as an organisation?
