Psychological First Aid
Dr. David Hof will present Psychological First Aid (PFA) as an
evidence informed modular approach for assisting people in
the immediate aftermath of disaster, conflicts, accidents and
terrorism: to reduce initial distress and to foster short and
long-term adaptive functioning. It is for use by first
responders, incident command systems, primary and
emergency health care providers, school crisis response
teams, faith-based organizations and disaster relief
organizations. This workshop is designed to introduce
participants to the basic knowledge and intervention
techniques associated with the practice of PFA.

January 24
Ms. Donna Daiss, J.D. will assist mental health
practitioners understand and identify the difference
between court-mandated treatment and services
provided to those defendants found not responsible
by reason of insanity and those subject under a
mental health commitment. The responsibilities of
therapists offering those services will be examined as
well as how to interact with the courts and courtdesignated mental health boards in order to meet
those responsibilities while providing care to their
clients.
