Global Health Competencies

In low- and middle-income settings, graduates will be able to:

• Use program and budget management skills to design and implement health programs • Apply a multidisciplinary approach to analyze health systems and institutions involved in financing and providing preventative and curative health services at the multilateral, bilateral, national, and community levels • Integrate information and apply models from epidemiological, economic, behavioral, and cultural perspectives to promote social changes required to improve the health of populations

Runs late May through mid-August; six credits

• Three Components: Parasitology Field Course (UP College of Public Health) • Community Health Financing Study Tour (INAM) • Individual Field Practicum w/Organization in Philippines • Information Session in Dec/Jan Meets Practicum Requirement

Summer Exchange with INSP, Mexico

Runs late May to early August; 6 credits

• Components: Conduct Public Health Field Assessment in Mexico, with INSP students • Spanish Fluency Required • Spring Semester (Boston) preparation for field work, under direction of Dr. Veronika Wirtz • Information Session in Dec/Jan Meets Practicum Requirement

Santander Universities Scholars Program

Funds to grow our International Field Practice Programs: • Latin America Scholarship (Ten @ $2,500) • Need-Based Scholarship (Ten @ $4,000) • Kenya Field Practice Program (Twenty-five @ $3,000) • Two Applications cycles/year; closing dates:  Spring practicums: Nov 7, 2014  Summer and Fall practicums: February 17, 2015
